The circumstances under which a re-publication of the Dissertations was called for, were such as admitted of no delay, and the present Editor found it impossible, with the limited time allowed him, to do all that he wished for the improvement of the Translation: he has, however, revised it throughout, and, in many places, has substituted a fuller or more accurate rendering of the Author's meaning, and inserted matter which was omitted in the former edition.
