Ifaiah.

Cyrus called. for he will take thereof and warm him- fore him the two leaved gates, and the felf; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh gates fhall not be fhut. bread yea, he maketh a god and worThippeth it: he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.

16 He burneth part thereof in § fire, with part thereof he eateth Aeth: he rofteth roft, & is fatisfied: yea, he warmeth him felf, & faith, Aba, I am warm, I have feeny 17 And refidue therof he maketh a god, evin his graven image: he falleth down unto it, & worshippeth it, & prayeth unto it, and faith, Deliver me, for thou art my god. 18 They have not known, nor underflood: for he hath fhut their eyes, that

they cannot fees and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

19 And none confidereth in his heart,neither is there knowledge nor underftanding to fay, I have burnt part of it in the fire, yea, alfo I have baked bread upony coals there of; I have rofted fiefh and eaten it, & fhall I make the refidue thereof an abomination? Thall I fall down to the ftock of a tree? 20 He feedeth of afhes: a deceived heart hath turned him afide, that he cannot deliver his foul, nor fay, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

214 Remember thefe, O Jacob and Ifrael; for thou art my fervant; I have formed thee, thou art my fervant; O If rael, thou shalt not be forgotten of me:

22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy tranfgreflions, and as a cloud, thy fins: return unto me, for I have redeemed thee. 23 Sing, Oye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: fhout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into finging, ye moun tains, O forrelt, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Ifrael.

28 That faith of Cyrus, He is my fhepberd, and fhall perform all my pleasure even faying to Jerufalem, Thou shalt be built 3 and to the temple, thy foundation fhall be laid.

CHAP. XLV. God calleth Cyrus for bis churches fake. He challengeth obedience. 20 He convincere sbe idols of vanity.

Hus faith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whofe right hand I have holden, to fubdue nations before him: and I will loose the loins of kings.to open be

2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places ftraight: I will break in pieces the gates of brafs, and cut in funder the bars of iron.

3 And I will give thee & treasures of darknefs, and hidden riches of fecret places, thou maye know, that I the LORD, which call thee by thy name,am the God of Ifrael. 4 For Jacob my fervants fake, and If rael mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: 1have firmamed thee, though thou haft not known me,

8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, & let the skies pour down righteoufnefs: let the earth open, and let them bring forth falvation, and let righteoufnefs fpring up together: I the LORD have created it.

9 Wo unto him thar ftriveth with his Maker: let the pot fheard ftrive with the pot-fheards of the earth: fhall the clay fay to him that fashioneth it, What maket thou? or thy work, he hath no hands?

10 Wo unto him that faith unto his father, What begetteft thou? or to the woman, What halt thou brought forth?

11 Thus faith the LORD, the holy one of Ifrael, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my fons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.

12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I even my hands have ftretched out the heavens, and all their hoft have I commanded.

15 Verily, thou art a God that hideft thy felf, O God of Ifrael the Saviour.

16 They fhall be ashamed, and alfo con founded all of them: they shall go to confufion together that are makers of idols.

17 But Ifrael thall be faved in the LORD with an everlafting falvation : ye thall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

18 For thus faith the LORD that created the heavens, God himself that formed the earth and madeit, he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be

13 I bring near my righteoufnefs: it fhall not be far off, and my falvation fhall not tarry and I will place falvation in Zion for Ifrael my glory. CHAP, XLVII. Gods judgment upon Babylon.

22 Look unto me, and be ye faved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none elfe.

23 I have fworn by my felf, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteoufnefs, and fhall not return, that unto me every knee fhall bow, every tongue fhall fwear. 24 Surely fhall one fay, in the LORD have I righteoufnefs and ftrength: even to him fhall men come, and all that are incenfed against him, fhall be ashamed. 25 In the LORD fhall all the feed of Ifrael be justified, and fhall glory.

CHAP. XLVI. The Idols ofBabylon cannot fave themselves. 5 Idols are not comparable to God for power, 12 or prefent Salvation.

Bidoboweth down, Nebo to peth, their idols were upon the beafts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy loaden, they are a burden to the weary braft. 2 They (toop, they bow down together, they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into eaptivity.

3 Hearken unto me, O houfe of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Ifrael, which are born by me, from the belly,wbieb are carried from the womb.

4 And even to your old age I am he, and even to hoar-hairs will I carry you: 1have made, and I will bear, even I will carry, and will deliver you.

5To whom will ye liken me,&makeme equal, and compare me, y we may be like? 6 They lavih gold out of the bag, and weigh filver in the ballance, and hire a goldsmith, and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship.

7 They bear him upon the fhoulder,they carry him, and fet him in his place, and he ftandeth; from his place fhall be not remove; yea,one fhall cry unto him,yet can he not anfwer, nor fave him out of his trouble. 8Remember this, &fhew your felves men, bring it again to mind, O ye tranfgreffors. 9 Remember the formerthings of old,for I am God, and there is none elfe: I am God, and there is none like me.

10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times, the things that are not yet done, faying, My counfel fhall ftand, and I will do all my pleasure:

11 Calling a ravenous bird from the eaft, the man that executeth my counsel

2 Take the millones and grind meal, uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pafs over the rivers.

3 Thy nakednels fhall be uncovered,yea, thy fhame fhall be feen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man. 4 As for out redeemer, the LORD of holts is his Name, the holy one of Ifrael,

64 I was wroth with my people, I have into thine hand; thou didft fhew them no pollutedmine inheritance, and given them mercy, upon the antient haft thou very heavily laid thy yoke.

8 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwelleft carelefly, that fayeft in thine heart, I am, and none elfe befides me, I fhall not fit as a widows neither fhall I know the lofs of children.

9 But thefe two things fhall come to thee in a moment, in one day; the lofs of children and widow-hood; they fhall come upon thee in their perfection, for the multitude of thy forceries, and for the great abundance of thine inchantments.

10 For thou haft trusted in thy wickednefs: thou haft faid, None feeth me: thy -wifdom and thy knowledge it hath perverted thee, and thou haft faid in thine heart, I am, and none elfe befides me.

11 Therefore fhall evil come upon thee, thou fhalt not know from whence it rifeth: and mifchief thall fall upon thee, thom fhalt not be able to put it off: and defolation fhall come upon thee fuddenly, which thou shalt not know.

12 Stand now with thine inchantments, and with the mutitude of thy forceries a wherein thou haft laboured from thy youth if fo be thou shalt be able to profit, iffo be thou mayeft prevail.

13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counfels; let now the aftrologers, the itar-gazers, the monthly prognofticators ftand up, and fave thee from theft things that hall come upon thee.

14 Behold, they fhall be as ftubble; the fire fhall burn them: they fhall not deliver themfelyes from the power of the flame:

Hat ve ted use of rael, and are called by the name of Ifrael, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah; which fwear by the Name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Ifrael, but not in truth, nor in righteoufnels.

For they call themselves of the holy city, and ftay themselves upon the God of Ifrael, the LORD of hofts is his Name.

3 I have declared the former things from the beginning: and they went forth out of my mouth, and I fhewed them.Idid them fuddenly, and they came to pass.

17 Thus faith the LORDthy Redeemers holy One of Ifrael, I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou fhouldft go.

19 Thy feed alfo had been as the fand, and the off-fpring of thy bowels like the

gravel thereof; his name fhould not have been cut off, nor deftroyed from before me.

2e Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of finging declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth: fay ye, The LORDhath redeemed his fervant Jacob.

21 And they thirited not when he led them through the defarts; he caufed the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave the rock alfo, and the waters gufhed out.

4Becaufe Iknew ý thou art obftinate, and thy neck is an iron finew,& thy brow brafs. 1 I have even from beginningdeclared it to thee; before it came to pafs, I fhewed is thee: left thou should fay, mine dod hath done them, and my graven image,and my molten image hath commanded them. 6 Thou haft beard, fee all this; and will not ye declare it? They are created now, and not from the beginning, even before the day when thou heardeft them not, left theu fhouldft fay, Behold, I knew them.

8Yea, thou heard eft not, yea, thou knew est not, yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldft deal very treacheroufly, and wait called a tranfgreffor from the womb.

94 For my Names fake will I defer mine anger, and for my praife will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.

10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with filver: I have chofen thee in the furmace of affliction.

1. For mine own fake, even for mine own fake will I do it; for how fhould my Name be polluted? and 1 will not give my glory unto another.

129 Hearken unto me, O Jacob, and Ifrael my called, I am he, I am the firft, I alfo am the laft.

13 Mine hand alfo hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath fpanned the heavens: wbin I call unto them they ftand up together.

14 All ye affemble your felves and hear: which among them hath declared thefe things? the LORD hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm all be on the Caldeans.

Leople toes, unto me, and hearken ve from far, the LORDhath called me from the womb, from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of myName. 2 And he hath made my mouth like a fharp fword, in the fhadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polifhed thaft, in his quiver hath he hid me,

3 And faid unto me, Thou art my fervant, Ifrael, in whom I will be glorified. 4 Then I faid, I have laboured in vain, have spent my ftrength for nought, and in vain, yet furely my judgment is with the LORD, and my work with my God.

5 And now faith the LORD, that formed me from the womb to be his fervant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Ifrael be not gathered, yet fhall I be glori-" eus in the eyes of the LORD, and my God fhall be my ftrength.

6 And he faid, It is a light thing that thou fhould be my fervant, to raife up the tribes of Jacob, and to reftore the preferved of Ifrael: I will alfo give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayeft be my falvation unto the end of the earth.

7 Thus faith the LORD, the Redeemer of Ifrael, and his holy One, to him whom man defpifeth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a fervant of rulers, kings hall fee and arife, princes alfo fhall worship, becaufe of the LORD that is faithful; andthe holy One of Ifrael, & he fhall choose thee.

8 Thus faith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee: and in a day of falvation have I helped thee, and I will preferve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to caufe to inherit the defolate heritages:

10 Art thou not it which hath dried the fea, the waters of the great deep, that hath made the depths of the fea a way for the ranfomed to pass over?

11 Therefore the redeemed of the LORD fhall return, and come with finging unto Zion, and everlasting joy fhall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladnefs and joy, and forrow and mourning fhall flee

12 I, even I am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou fhouldelt be afraid of a man that fhall die, and of the fon of man, whieb fhall be made as grafs?

13 And forgetteft the LORD thy Maker, ahathath ftretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth? and haft feared continually every day, becaufe of the fury of the oppreffor, as if he were seady to deftroy? and where is the fury of the oppreffor?

14. The geptive exile hafteneth that he may be loof ed, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread thould fail. 15 But I am the LORD thy God, that divided the fea, whofe waves roared: the LORD of hosts is his Name.

16And I have put my wordsinthy mouth, and have covered thee in the fhadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and fay unto Zion, Thou art my people.

17 Awake, awake, ftand up, O Jerufalem, which haft drunk at the hand of the LORD the the cup of his fury: thou haft drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.

18 There is none to guide her among all the fons whom the hath brought forth neither is there any taketh her by the hand, of all the fons that the hath brought up. 19 These two things are come unto thee;

Cbrifts redemption.

who fhall be forry for thee? defolation and deftrućtion, and the famine, and the fword: by whom fhall I comfort thee?

20 Thy fons have fainted, they lie at the head of all the ftreets as a wild bull in a net they are full of the fury of the LORD, the rebuke of thy God.

21 Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine.

22 Thus faith the LORD, the LORD, and thy God, that pleadeth the caufe of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cap of trembling, even the dregs. of the cup of my fury, thou shalt no more drink it again.

23 But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee: which have faid to thy foul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thon haft laid thy body as the ground, and as the ftreet to them that went over. CHA P. LII.

Chrift perfuadeth the church to believe his free redemption.

Zion ; put on thy beautiful garments, Jerufalem the holy city: for henceforth there thall no more come into thee the uncircumcifed, and the unclean.

2 Shake thy felf from the duft; arife, and fit down, O Jerufalem: loofe thy felf from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.

3 For thus faith the LORD, Ye bave fold your felves for nought: and ye fhall be redeemed without money.

4 For thus faith the LORD GOD, My people, went down afore time into Egypt to fojourn there, and the Affyrian oppreffed them without caufe.

5 Now therefore, what have I Bere, faith the LORD, that my people is taken away fer nought? they that rule over them make them to howl, faith the LORD, and my Name continually every dayisblafphemed. 6 Therefore my people thall know me Name: therefore cory hall know iny day. that I am he that doth fpeak, behold it isl.

7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him bringeth good tidings, that publiheth peace, that bringeth good tidings of good, that publifheth Talvation. that faith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

8 Thy watchmen fhall lift up the voice, with the voice together fhall they fing: for they hall fee eye to eye, when the LORD fhall bring again Zion.
