both the wafhing of one another's feet, and the anointing of the fick with oil, doth answer to it, and many other things: fo that the probation of a facrament at all, or of their being two, feven, yea, or seventy, is all alike eafy; feeing neither name nor number is to be found in the fcripture, they being the mere conceits and inventions of men. And yet it is marvellous to fee, with how great confidence fome men do affert the fcripture to be their rule, while they build up fo confiderable parts of their doctrine, without the leaft fcripture foundation. Thus I thought fit to pitch upon these three, viz. the scriptures, fabbath, and facraments, because these be three of the main things for which we the Quakers are chiefly cried out against, and accused, as believing erroneously concerning them. Now what we believe concerning these things, and how agreeable our testimony herein is to the fcriptures, is heretofore fufficiently demonftrated: alfo how little fcripture-proof these have for their contrary affertions to us in these things, notwithstanding their great pretences to fcripture, will also appear to the unbiassed reader. NOTE, reader, that I have here throughout made ufe of the last common tranflation of the bible; and if I would have made ufe of the Hebrew and Greek, I I could have produced divers other very clear fcriptures, which in the common tranflation are corrupted and perverted; but I choofed rather to do thus, that our opposers might fee I took no advantage that way; and alfo, that all that can but read, may find the places cited in their own bibles.
