The Son of God, the fecond perfon in the trinity, being very and eternal God, of one fubftance and equal with the Father, did, when the fulness of time was come, take upon him man's nature k, with all the effential properties and common infirmities thereof, yet without fini: being conceived by the power of the holy Ghoft, in the womb of the Virgin Mary, of her fubftance m. So that two whole, per will judge the world in righteoufnefs, by that man whom he hath ordained, whereof he hath given affurance unto all men, in that he hath raifed him from the dead. h John. 17. 6. I John 5. 20. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath givenusanunderstanding,thatwemay know him that is true: and we are in him that is true, even in his fon Jefus Chrift. But when the fulnefs of the time was come, God fent forth his Son made of a wo man, made under the law, I Heb. 1. 14. Forafmuch then as the children are partakers of flefk and blood, he alfo himself likewife took part of the fame,that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil. v. 16. For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the feed of Abraham. v. 17. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren; that he might be a merciful and faithful high prieft,in things pertaining to God; to make reconciliation for the fins of the people. Heb. 4. 15. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without fin. m. Luke 1, 27. To a virgin e fpoufed fect and distinct natures, the Godhead and the manhood, were infeparably joined together in one perfon,without converfion compofition or confufion n. Which perfon is very God, and very man, yet one Chrift, the only Mediator between God and man o. III. The Lord Jefus, in his humane nature thus united to the divine, was fanctified and anointed with the holy fpirit above measure p; having in him all the treasures of wifdom and knowledge q; in whom it pleafed the Father that all fuinefs fhould dwell r: To the end, that being holy, harmlefs, undefiled, and full of grace and truth f, he might be thorowly furnished to execute the office of a Mediator and furety t. Which office he took not unto himself, but was spoused to a man whofe name was Jofeph, of the house of David; and the virgins name was Mary. v. 31. And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth afon,and fhall call his name Jefus. For Chriit alfo hath once fuffered for fins, the just for the unjult (that he might bring us to God) being put to death in the fiefh, but quickned by the fpirit. 1 Tim.3. 16.And without controverfy, great is themyftery of godlinels: God was manifeft in the flesh, juftified in the fpirit, feen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles,believed on in the world, received up into glory. But why doft thou judge thy brother? or whydoftthou fet at nought thy brother? for we fhall all ftand be fore the judgment-feat of Chrift. Acts 1. 11. Which alfo faid, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this fame jefuswhich is taken up from you into heaven, fhall fo come, in like man. V. The Lord Jefus, by his perfect obedience and sacrifice of himself,which he through the eternal fpirit once offered up unto God, hath fully fatisfied the juftice of his Father; and purchased not only reconciliation, but an everlasting inheritance in the kingdom of heaven, for all those whom the Father hath given unto him 1. manner as ye have feen him go into heaven. Acts. 10. 42. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to teftify that it is he, which was ordained of God to be the judge of quick and dead. Mat, 13. 40. As therefore the tares are gathered and burnt in the fire; fo hall it be inthe end of this world. v. 41. The fon of man fhall fend forth hisangels, and they fhall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity: . 42. And fhall caltthem into a furnace of fire: there fhall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Jude6. And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved ineverlastingchainsunder darkness untothe judgmentof the great day. 2 Peter 2. 4. Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people, and upon thy holy city, to finish the tranfgreffion, and to make an end of fins; and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteoufnefs, and to feal up the vifion and prophecy, and to anoint the moltholy.. 26.
