of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! 15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pi'-lăte saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Çæ'-sär.

16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Je'-sus, and led him away.

17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the He'-brew Gŏl'go-thǎ:

18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Je'-sus in the midst.

19 ¶ And Pi'-lăte wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JE'-ŠUS OF NAZ-A-RETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Je'-sus was crucified was nigh to the city and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Lǎt'-In.

21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pi'-late, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.

22 Pi'-lăte answered, What I have written I have written.

23 T Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Je'-sus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it

and death.

shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

25 T Now there stood by the cross of Je'-sus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mâr'-y the wife of Cle'-o-phăs, and Mâr'-y | Măg'-dă-lēne.

26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

28 T After this, Jē’-šus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pi-late that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.

33 But when they came to Je'-sus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

Christ's burial

34 But one of the soldiers vith a spear pierced his side, nd forthwith came there out blood and water.

35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. 36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

38¶ And after this Jō'-sěph of År-im-ǎ-the-ă, being a disciple of Je'-sus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pi-late that he might take away the body of Je'-sus: and Pi'-late gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Je'-sus.

39 And there came also Nic-Ŏdemus, which at the first came to Jesús by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. 40 Then took they the body of Je'-sus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.

42 There laid they Je'-sus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

CHAPTER 20.

THE first day of the Wenk first day of the week

early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Si-mon Pe'-těr, and to the other disciple, whom Je'-sus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.

4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Pē'-těr, and came first to the sepulchre.

5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.

6 Then cometh Si'-mon Pē'ter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,

7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.

9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

11 ¶ But Mâr'-y stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,

12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, whe where the body of Je'-sus had

13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord,

2 There were together Simon Pē'-těr, and Thom'-as called Did'-y-mus, and Nă'-thǎn'-a-ěl of Ca'-nă in Găl'-1-lée, and the sons of Zěb'-ě-dée, and two other of his disciples.

3 Si-mon Pe'-těr saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. 4 But when the morning was now come, Je'-sus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jē'-sus.

5 Then Je'-sus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. 6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

7Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Si'mon Pe'-těr heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.

9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.

10 Je'-sus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.

11 Si-mon Pe'-těr went up, and drew the net to land full

of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for

was not the net broken.

12 Jē'-sus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

13 Je'-sus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.

14 This is now the third time that Je'-sus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.

15 ¶ So when they had dined, Je'-sus saith to Si'-mon Pē'-těr, Si'-mon, son of Jo'-năs, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

16 He saith to him again the second time, Si'-mon, son_of Jo'-nas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

17 He saith unto him the third time, Si'-mon, son of Jo'nas, lovest thou me? Pē'-těr was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Je'-sus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest : but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had

20 Then Pe'-těr, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Je'-sus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? 21 Pē'-těr seeing him saith to Je'-sus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

22 Jē'-sus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.

CHAPTER 1. THE former treatise have I made, O Thē-ŏph'-I-lus, of all that Je'-sus began both to do and teach,

2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen : 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Is'-rā-ěl?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jě-rû'-să-lěm, and in all Judæ ́-ă, and in Să-mâr'-I-ă, and unto the uttermost part of the

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
