THE call for this valuable and interesting little work has been such, that the first edition is exhausted; and it becomes necessary to give a second: which is enlarged, and stereotyped. It affords satisfaction to the Editors to find, that the object intended by publishing "Father Rowland," has been accomplished. It has tended to remove the prejudices of many, by stating, in brief, the real doctrines of the Church, and showing how they have been misrepresented. It appears not to have been the design of the author to enter at large into the proofs of each point, (sufficient are, how ever, given.) He wishes to convince the reader, that when the tenets of Catholicism are viewed through a proper medium, they must be admired, and respected. And, perhaps, the most effectual way to convince, is to give |
