of peace fanctify as wholly c. O let us be filled with the knowledge of thy will in all wifdom and fpiritual understanding, and make us perfect in every good work to do thy wille. O let the time paft of our life fuffice us to have wrought the will of the fleth f, and to have walked according to the courfe of this world &. And from henceforth grant that it may always be our meat and drink to do the will of our Father, and to finish his work; not to do our own will i, but his that fent us k, that we may be of those that shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, and not those that shall be beaten with many stripes '.

Lord, give grace to others alfo to know and do thy will; to prove what is the good, and acceptable and perfect will of God m, not to be unwife, but understanding what the will of the Lord is "; and then give them to ftand perfect and complete in all the will of God: And let us all ferve our generations according to that will.

And when we have done the will of God, let us inherit the promises ; and let that part of the will of God be done; Lord, let the word which thou haft fpoken concerning thy fervants be established forever, and do as thou haft faid ".

We rejoice that thy will is done in heaven: that the holy angels do thy commandments, and always hearken to the voice of thy words; that they always behold the face of our Father'. And we lament it, that thy will is fo little done on earth, fo many of the children of men being led captive by Satan at his will. O that this earth may be made more like to heaven! and

Give us this day our daily bread.

Thou, O God, who haft appointed us to feek firf the kingdom of God, and the righteoufnefs thereof, haft promifed that if we do fo, other things fhall be added unto use: and therefore having prayed for the fanctifying of thy name, the coming of thy kingdom, and the doing of thy will, we next pray, Father in heaven, give us this day, and day by day our daily bread f.

Remove far from us vanity and lies; give us neither poverty nor riches; feed us with food convenient for us, left we be full and deny thee, and fay, Who is the Lord? or left we be poor and steal, and take the name of our God in vain

Lord, we afk not for dainties, for they are deceitful meat ; nor do we pray that we may fare fumptuously every day, for we would not in our life time receive our good things; but we pray for that bread which is neceffary to ftrengthen man's heart. We defire not to eat the bread of deceit, nor to drink any stolen waters m, nor would we eat the bread of idleness n, but that if it be thy will we may eat the labour of our own hands, that with quietnefs we may work, and eat our own

Blefs, Lord, our fubftance, and accept the work of our hands ; and give us wherewithal to provide for our own, even for thofe of our own houfet, and to leave an inheritance, as for as is juft to our children's children Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, profper thou the work of our hands upon us, yea, the work of our hands establish thou it w. Bless, Lord, our land with the precious things of the earth, and the fulnefs thereof; but above all let us have the good-will of him that dwelt in the bush, even the bleffing that was upon the head of Jofeph, and upon the crown of the head of him that was feparated from his brethren.

But if the fig-tree fhould not bloffom, and there fhould be no fruit in the vine; if the labour of the olive fhould fail, and the fields fhould yield no meat; if the flock fhould be cut off from the fold, and there fhould be no herd in the ftall, yet let us have grace to rejoice in the Lord, and to joy in the God of our falvation Y.

Father, we afk not for bread for a great while to come, but that we may have this day our daily bread"; for we would learn, and the Lord teach us not to take thought for the morrow, what we fhall eat, or what we fhall drink, or wherewithal we fhall be clothed, but we caft the care upon thee, our heavenly Father, who knoweft that we have need of all these things; who feedeft the fowls of the air, though they fow not, neither do they reap, and wilt much more feed us who are of more value than many sparrows 2.

Hab. iii. 17, 18.

Nor do we pray for daily bread for ourselves only, but for others alfo. O fatisfy thy poor with bread ь: Let all that walk righteoufly and fpeak uprightly dwell on high: Let the place of their defence be the munition of rocks, let bread be given to them, and let their waters be fure c.

And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

And, Lord, as duly as we pray every day for our daily bread, we pray for the forgiveness of our fins: For we are all guilty before God, have all finned, and have come fhort of the glory of God. In many things we all offend every daye: Who can tell how oft he offends? If thou shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee that thou mayeft be feared %. God be merciful to us

finners.

We have wafted our Lord's goods, we have buried the talents we were entrusted with, nor have we rendered again according to the benefit done unto us, and thus we came to be in debt *. The fcripture has concluded us all under fin; we have done fuch things as are worthy of death; things for which the wrath of God comes upon the children of difobedience ". Our debt is more than ten thousand talents 4. It is a great debt; and we have nothing to pay, lo far are we from being able to fay, Have patience with us, and we will pay thee all . Juftly therefore might our adversary deliver us to the judge, and the judge to the officer, to be caft into prifon, the prifon of hell, till we fhould pay the last farthing P.

agreeing with our adverfary; for if any man fin, we have an advocate with the Father, even Jefus Christ the righteous, and he is the propitiation for our fins q For his fake, we pray thee, blot out all our tranfgreffions, and enter not into judgment with us . And as an evidence that thou haft forgiven our fins, we pray thee give us grace to forgive our enemies, to love them that hate us, and bless them that curfe us; for we acknowledge, that if we forgive not men their trefpaffes, neither will our Father forgive our trefpaffes : And therefore we forgive, Lord, we defire heartily to forgive, if we have a quarrel against any, even as Chrift forgave us k. Far be it from us to fay, that we will recompenfe evil, or that we fhould avenge ourselves m. But we pray that all bitterness, and wrath,
