I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

Selected from Isaiah, ch. 37, 38.

O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth : thou hast made heaven and earth. Incline thine ear, O Lord, and hear; open thine eyes, o Lord, and see. Remember, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. Now therefore, O Lord our God, save us from the hand that oppresses us, that all the earth may know that thou art the Lord, even thou only.

The Thanksgiving of Hezekiah, on his recovery from

sickness, Isaiah, 38.

I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years. I said, I shall not see the Lord, even the Lord, in the land of the living: I

O Lord, hearken, and do: defer not, for thine own sake, O my God : for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

Jonah's Prayer, Jonah, 2.

I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice. For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. The waters compassed me about, even to the soul : the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about

my

head. I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God. When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord : and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. They that observe lying. vanities forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving;

sickness, Isaiah, 38.

I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years. I said, I shall not see the Lord, even the Lord, in the land of the living: I

shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off' with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones : from day even to night wilt. thuu make an end of me. Like a crane or a suvallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove : mine eyes fait with looking upward : O Lord, I am oppressed: undertake for me. What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it ; I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. Behold, for peace I had great bitterness : but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption : for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. For the grave cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee: they that go

down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. The living, the living, lie shall praise thee, as I do this day : the father to the children shall make known thy truth. The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.

Selected from Baruch, ch. 2, 3.

before us.

O Lord our God, thou hast dealt with us after all thy goodness, and according to all that great mercy of thine. To the Lord our God appertaineth righteousness : but unto us and to our fathers open shame, as appeareth this day. Yet we have not hearkened unto his voice to walk in the commandments of the Lord, that he hath set

Yet have we not prayed before the Lord, that we might turn every one from the imaginations of his wicked heart. O Lord our God, we have sinned, we have done ungodly, we have dealt unrighteously in all thine ordi:

Hear our prayers, O Lord, and our petitions, and deliver us for thine own sake, and give us favour in the sight of them which have led us away : that all the earth may know that thou art the Lord our God, because Israel and his posterity is called by thy name. O Lord, look down from thine holy house, and consider us: bow down thine ear, O Lord, to hear us. Open
