Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if GOD so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the

oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, what shall we drink? or, wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. ST. MATT. vi. 24-34.

THE PHARISEE AND THE PUBLICAN.

Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself: GOD, I thank thee that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, GOD be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified

DIVES ET LAZARUS.

HOмo quidam erat dives, et induēbātur purpura et byssō, et epulabātur cotidie splendidē. Et erat quidam mendicus nomine Lazarus, qui jacēbat at jānuam ejus ulceribus plenus, cupiens saturāri dē micis quæ cadebant dē mēnsă divitis: sed et canes veniebant et linguebant ulcera ejus. Factum est autem ut moreretur mendicus et portārētur ab angeIts in sinum Abrahæ mortuus est autem et dives et sepultus est in infernõ.

Elevans autem oculos suos, cum esset in tormentis, videbat Abraham a longe et Lazarum în sinū ejus. Et ipse clamāns dixit, " Pater Abraham, miserēre met et mitte Lazarum ut intingat extrēmum digiti suf in aquam ut refrigeret linguam meam, quia crucior in hac flammā."

Et dixit illi Abraham, " Filt, recordare quia recēpisti bona in vita tua et Lazarus similiter mala: nunc autem hic consōlatur, tu vērō cruciāris. Et præter omnia hæc, inter nos et vōs chaos māgnum firmatum est ut hr qui volunt hinc transire ad vōs non possint, neque inde huc transmeāre." Et

DIVES AND LAZARUS.

THERE was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day. And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate full of sores, and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried; and in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.” But Abraham said, "Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they who would pass from hence to you can not; neither can they pass to us that would come from thence." Then

PASTOR BONUS.

EGO sum pastor bonus. Bonus pastor animam suam dat pro ovibus; mercennarius autem et qui non est pastor, cujus nōn sunt oves propriæ, videt lupum venientem et dimittit ovēs et fugit, et lupus rapit et dispergit ovēs; mercennarius autem fugit quia mercennarius est et non pertinet ad eum de ovibus. Ego sum pastor bonus et cognosco meas et cognoscunt me meæ. Stcut novit me Pater et ego agnosco Patrem, et animam meam pōno pro ovibus. Et alias oves habeo quæ non sunt ex hoc ovtir; et illas oportet me adducere, et vocem meam audient, et fret unum ovile et unus pastor.
