RULES.

I. The Society shall bear the title of "The Bristol and West of England Architectural Society."

II. The objects of the Society shall be to promote the study of English Gothic Architecture.*

(1) By personal observations and by manuscript surveys of old Churches and other Ecclesiastical Buildings; as well as of Baronial Edifices.

(2) By the Collection of Books, Prints, and Drawings; Models, Casts, and other Architectural Specimens.

(3) By Collections of Monumental Remains; and by Historical Notices of Founders, Dates of Erection, and other details appropriate to the Architecture, Archæology, or Heraldry of the Middle Ages.

(4) By encouraging and aiding in the printing and dissemination of Works tending to promote the diffusion of Architectural knowledge.

(5) By making Grants from the funds of the Society towards

the restoration or building of Churches.

III. The Society shall consist of Patrons, Vice-Patrons, Honorary, and other Members.

IV.—An annual Subscription of 10s. 6d. shall constitute a Member; and a payment of £5 5s., at any one time, shall constitute a Member for life.

V. Members shall be at liberty to propose Honorary Members, from whom no annual Subscription, but only an entrance fee of 10s. 6d. shall be required. Honorary Members shall not be entitled to vote.

*It being desirable that all papers contributed by Members be as nearly as possible uniform, the Committee have made arrangements with their Printer to keep a stock of Post Paper with ruled margin.

VI. The Officers of the Society shall consist of a President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

VII.—The Committee shall be elected from among the Members of the Society at a General Meeting, and shall consist of the Officers of the Society, and twelve members, three of whom shall constitute a quorum.

VIII.—The Committee shall have power to transact the business and regulate the proceedings of the Society, to appoint the general meetings, and to dispose of the funds in the manner which they may judge most conducive to its interests.

IX.-One third of the Committee shall retire annually, and be eligible for re-election.

X.- Persons desirous of becoming Members of the Society shall be proposed and elected in Committee.

XI. The Committee shall meet, at least, once a quarter; and there shall be not less than two general meetings in the course of

the year.

XII. At each general Meeting the following order shall be observed:

(1) The minutes of the last meeting shall be read, and matters of business-as communications of presents, books added to the Society, &c. shall be brought forward.

(2) The papers previously decided upon by the Committee shall be read.

(3) Any Member having remarks to offer on the paper read, or any further communications to make, shall then bring them forward.
