Name, it may be to Thy people a house of prayer. Through.

TOn the Dedication.
GOD, Who hast vouch-

safed to call Thy Church Thy Bride, that as she enjoys Thy favour through the devotion of her faith, so she might likewise obtain dignity by reason of Thy Name: grant that all this Thy people who worship Thy Name, may be found worthy to share in that glorious title. Who livest.

COLLECT.

GOD, Who hast been pleased to ordain that the memorial of Thy death should be celebrated in a perpetual Sacrifice, for the salvation of Thy faithful people pour the power of Thy blessing upon this Altar, that whosoever shall here be partakers of Thy divine Gift, may feel within themselves Thine aid in this life

present, and also in that which is to come. Who livest.

LESSON.

Now

I Maccabees iv. 52.

on the five and twentieth day of the ninth month, which is called the month Casleu, in the hundred forty and eighth year they rose up betimes in the morning, and offered sacrifice according to the law upon the new Altar of burnt offerings, which they had made. Look, at what time and what day the heathen had profaned it, even in that was it dedicated with songs, and citherns, and harps, and cymbals. Then all the people fell upon their faces, worshipping and praising the God of Heaven, Who had given them good success. And so they kept the dedication of the Altar eight days, and offered burnt offerings with gladness, and sacrificed the sacrifice of deliverance and praise. They decked also the forefront of the temple with crowns of gold, and with shields; and the gates and the chambers they renewed, and hanged doors upon them. Thus was there very great gladness among the people, for that the reproach of the heathen was put away. Moreover, Judas and his brethren, with the whole congregation of Israel, ordained, that the days of the dedication of the Altar should

kept in their season from year to year by the space of

eight days, from the five and twentieth day of the month Casleu, with mirth and glad

ness.

GOSPEL. St. John iv. 19. THE woman of Samaria saith unto Jesus: Sir, I perceive that Thou art a Prophet. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, That in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Jesus saith unto her: Woman, believe Me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what; we know what we worship; for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him

BRETHREN: When we were yet without strength, in due time Christ

scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
