BRETHREN, Be not car-

ried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the

heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle. For the bodies of those beasts whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. Wherefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own Blood, suffered without the gate. Let us go forth therefore unto Him without the camp, bearing His reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His Name. But to do good and to communicate forget not for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

I. GOSPEL, St. Luke xix. 12.

JESUS spake this parable to His disciples: A certain nobleman went into a

far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them: Occupy till I come. But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying: We will not have this man to reign over us. And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded those servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. Then came the first, saying: Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. And he said unto him: Well, thou good servant because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. And the second came, saying: Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. And he said likewise to him: Be thou And also over five cities. another came, saying: Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: for I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. And he saith unto him: Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking

up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: wherefore then gavest not

thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? And he said unto them that stood by: Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds. And they said unto him: Lord, he hath ten pounds. For I say unto you: That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. And when He had thus spoken, He went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.

these heavenly Sacraments on the solemn feastday of Thy holy Martyr and Bishop N.: do Thou, of Thy bounty, we beseech Thee, grant, (at his prayers,) that what we celebrate in this time present, we may obtain in everlasting joy. Through.

ESUS went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith He unto His disciples: The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth labourers into the harvest. subdued kingdoms, tained promises, stopped the wrought righteousness, obmouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned

to flight the armies of the aliens: women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not ac

cepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: and others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: they were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; of whom the world was not worthy: they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, were ound to have obtained a good report through faith in Christ Jesus our Lord.

II. 1 Corinthians iv. 9.

BRETHREN, We

are

made a spectacle unto the world, and to Angels, and to men. We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong: ye are honourable, but we are despised. Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place; and labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this

day. I write not these things
to shame you, but as my be-
loved sons I warn you, in
Christ Jesus our Lord.

BUT the righteous live for

evermore; their reward also is with the Lord, and the care of them is with the Most High. Therefore shall they receive a glorious kingdom, and a beautiful crown from the Lord's hand: for with His right hand shall He cover them, and with His arm shall He protect them. He shall take to Him His jealousy for complete armour, and make the creature His weapon for the revenge of His enemies. He shall put on righteousness as a breastplate, and true judgement instead of an helmet. He shall take holiness for an invincible shield.
