afraid. And He went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened. And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore. And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew Him, and ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard He was. And whithersoever He entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought Him that they might touch if it were but the border of His garment and as many as touched Him were made whole.

WE then, as workers to

for He saith: I have heard

thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation; giving no offence in anything, that the ministry be not blamed; but in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; by pureness, by knowledge, by long-suffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, by honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; as sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

GOSPEL. St. Matthew iv. I.

THEN was Jesus led up of

the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted of the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He was afterward anhungred. And when the tempter came to Him, he said: If Thou be the Son of God, command that these

stones be made bread. But He answered and said: It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Then the

devil taketh Him up into the holy city, and setteth Him on a pinnacle of the temple, and saith unto Him: If Thou be the Son of God, cast Thyself down; for it is written: He shall give His Angels charge concerning Thee, and in their hands they shall bear Thee up, lest at any time Thou dash Thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him: It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord Thy God. Again the devil taketh Him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; and saith unto Him: All these things will I give Thee, if

Thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him: Get thee hence Satan; for it is written : Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth Him, and behold, Angels came and ministered unto Him. The Creed.

LESSON. Ezekiel xxxiv. 11.

THUS saith the Lord God: Behold, I, even I, will both search My sheep, and seek them out. As a shep

herd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out My sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the

country. I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a

fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel will cause them to lie down, I will feed My flock, and I saith the Lord God. I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick but I will strong; I will feed them with fat and the destroy the judgment, saith the Lord almighty.

of Man shall come in His glory, and all the holy Angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory: and before Him shall be gathered all nations: and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherddivideth his sheep from the goats: and He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand: Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit

the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was an hungred, and ye gave Me meat : I was thirsty, and ye gave Me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took Me in naked, and ye clothed Me: I was sick, and ye visited Me: I was in prison, and ye came unto Me. Then shall the righteous answer Him, saying: Lord when saw we Thee an hungred, and fed Thee? or thirsty, and gave Thee drink? When saw we Thee a stranger, and took Thee in ? or naked, and clothed Thee? Or when saw we Thee sick, or in prison, and came unto Thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them: Verily, I say unto you, Inasmuch as have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me. Then shall He say also unto them on the left hand: Depart from Me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was an hungred, and ye gave Me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave Me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took Me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited Me not. Then shall they also answer Him, saying: Lord, when saw we Thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto Thee? Then shall He answer them, saying: Verily I say
