concern our blessed Lord entertained for the whole human race, both rich and poor, induced him to make the observation in question. But a variety of reasons might be assigned why no such observation would ever have occurred to a mere man; and if it had, that he would never have introduced it into any code of theology of his composition.

Lord Bacon observes, that sacred theology, not only as it respects the great mysteries of our religion, but likewise as it respects a great part of the law moral, is of that perfection," whereunto the light of nature can"not aspire."
