Ye, who have sold for nought
Your heritage above,

Shall have it back unbought,

The gift of Jesu's love!

The year of jubilee is come! Return, &c.

4 Ye slaves of sin and hell,

5

Your liberty receive!

And safe in Jesus dwell,
And one with Jesus live!

The year of jubilee is come! Return, &c.

Ye bankrupt debtors, know

The sov'reign grace of Heaven!
Tho' sums immense ye owe,

A free discharge is given!

The year of jubilee is come! Return, &c.

6 The gospel-trumpet hear,—

The news of pard'ning grace!

Ye trembling souls, draw near,-
Behold your Saviour's face!

The year of jubilee is come! Return, &c.

7

Jesus, our great High Priest,

Hath full atonement made!

Ye weary spirits, rest;

Ye mournful souls, be glad!

The year of jubilee is come!
Return, ye ransom'd sinners, home!

DESIRING

DIVINE MANIFESTATIONS.

264.

1 How tedious and tasteless the hours, When Jesus no longer I see;

8s.

Sweet prospects, sweet birds, and sweet flowers,

Have lost all their sweetness with me:
The Midsummer-sun shines but dim,
The fields strive in vain to look gay;
But when I am happy in him,
December's as pleasant as May!

2 His name yields the richest perfume,
And sweeter than music his voice;
His presence disperses my gloom,
And makes all within me rejoice:
I should, were he always thus nigh,
Have nothing to wish or to fear;
No mortal so happy as I,

My summer would last all the year!

3 Coutent with beholding his face,

My all to his pleasure resign'd, No changes of season or place Would make any change in my mind: While blest with a sense of his love, A palace, a toy would appear; And prisons would palaces prove, If Jesus would dwell with me there!

4 Dear Lord, since thou callest me thine,
Since thou art my sun and my song,
Say, why do I languish and pine?
And why are my winters so long?
O drive these dark clouds from my sky,
Thy soul-cheering presence restore ;
Or take me unto thee on high,

Where winters and clouds are no more!

1 TALK with me, Lord, thyself reveal,
While here o'er earth I rove;
Speak to my heart, and let me feel
The kindling of thy love.

2 With thee conversing, I forget
All time, and toil, and care;
Labour is rest, and pain is sweet,
If thou, my God, art here!

3 Here, then, my Lord, vouchsafe to stay, And bid my heart rejoice!

My bounding heart shall own thy sway,
And echo to thy voice!

4 Thou callest me to seek thy face:
"Tis all I wish to seek:

T'attend the whispers of thy grace,
And hear thee inly speak.

5 Let this my ev'ry hour employ
Till I thy glory see,

Enter into thy boundless joy,
And find my heav'n in thee!

[blocks in formation]

1 WITH glorious clouds encompass'd round,

Whom angels dimly see,

Will the unsearchable be found?
Will God appear to me?

2 Will he forsake his throne above.
Himself to worms impart?
Answer, thou Man of griet and love,
And speak it to my heart!

3 In manifested love explain
Thy wonderful design;-

What meant the suff'ring Son of Man,
The streaming blood divine?

4 Come, Lord, and to my soul reveal
The heights and depths of grace!-
The wounds which all my sorrows heal,
That dear disfigur'd face!

5 Before my eyes of faith confest,
Appear the slaughter'd Lamb!
And wrap me in thy crimson vest,
And tell me all thy Name!

6 Jehovah in thy Person show,-
Jehovah crucify'd!

And then the pard'ning God I know,
And feel the blood apply'd!

7 I view the Lamb in his own light,
Whom angels dimly see;

And gaze, transported at the sight,
To all eternity!

[blocks in formation]

1 THOU great, mysterious God unknown
Whose hand has gently led me on,
E'en from my infant days:
My inmost soul expose to view,
And tell me if I ever knew,
In truth, thy saving grace.

2 If I have only known thy fear,
Tho' foll'wing with a heart sincere
Thy drawings from above,-
Now, now the further grace bestow,
And let my sprinkled conscience know
Thy sweet forgiving love!

3 Short of that love I would not stop,
A stranger to the gospel hope-
The sense of sin forgiven:

I would not, Lord, my soul deceive,
Without thine inward witness live,-
That antepast of heaven.

4 O let that witness speak in me,
And let him testify of thee

In Jesus reconciled!

And make me now, in faith draw nigh,

In Jesu's Spirit-Father cry,

And know myself thy child!
