PREFACE

TO THE SECOND EDITION.

It having pleased GOD to bless the First Edition of this little volume, and frequent enquiries having been made for it, since the first impression was disposed of, it is again sent forth to the world, in the humble hope, that it may once more, by the blessing of GOD, accomplish the Author's double object, viz. to glorify God, and comfort those who are cast down :-GOD is glorified, when His children are comforted, by whatever means He may choose, or by whatever instrument He may appoint, for the accomplishment of His will, that His people should be a comforted people. [Isaiah xl. 1.] The Author

knows not that he has any thing to retract: nor has he added much the subjects, of which he has written, are not like those of philosophy and of astronomy: we cannot make (theoretically at least, since we have no new Revelation,) any fresh discoveries of the faithfulness of our GOD AND FATHER IN CHRIST JESUS: we cannot add unto it, nor can we
