HYMNS AND POEMS. STAR of Jacob! let thy ray, Through this vale of tears, on thee Let my sole dependance be;Thee, th' eternal Prince of Peace, Thee, the Sun of Righteousness. Reason sheds but treach'rous light, Star of Jacob! let thy ray, FIRST PSALM. THRICE happy he who never strays, Who from the wand'ring sinner's ways Who in God's holy law by day Fed by a river's cooling stream, And fruit with which his branches teem, No wither'd leaf his branches bear, His stem sees no decay, For prosp'rous all their actions are, But wicked men are fiercely driv'n, Nor 'mong the saints of God in heav'n, For God knows well the good man's path, And crowneth him with love, But on the wicked pours his wrath, His thunders from above. THE SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS. SEE the glorious sun arises, Shedding beams of heavenly love; Haste my soul, then bring thy praises, Due to him who reigns above. All creation springs to motion; Raise to him their gladsome voice. Oh! my soul, 'twas he who found thee Broke thy fetters by his suff'ring, Q He requires no slavish office, He demands no servile fear; Liberty and perfect service, These to him are held most dear.
