HYMNS AND POEMS.

STAR of Jacob! let thy ray,
Shine across my lonely way;
Lead, O lead me till thou come,
O'er the wand'ring sinner's home.

Through this vale of tears, on thee Let my sole dependance be;Thee, th' eternal Prince of Peace, Thee, the Sun of Righteousness.

Reason sheds but treach'rous light,
Never constant, never bright;
Hither, hence, before, behind,
A meteor dancing in the wind.

Star of Jacob! let thy ray,
Shine across my lonely way;
Guide me in the narrow road,
In the path that leads to God.

FIRST PSALM.

THRICE happy he who never strays,
Where wicked scorners meet;

Who from the wand'ring sinner's ways
Directs his trembling feet.

Who in God's holy law by day
And night devoutly reads,
And travels in the narrow way,
Which on to heaven leads.

Fed by a river's cooling stream,
Like some fair tree he thrives,

And fruit with which his branches teem,
In proper season gives.

No wither'd leaf his branches bear,

His stem sees no decay,

For prosp'rous all their actions are,
Who God's commands obey.

But wicked men are fiercely driv'n,
Like chaff before the wind,

Nor 'mong the saints of God in heav'n,
Shall they a refuge find.

For God knows well the good man's path,

And crowneth him with love,

But on the wicked pours his wrath,

His thunders from above.

THE SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.

SEE the glorious sun arises,

Shedding beams of heavenly love; Haste my soul, then bring thy praises, Due to him who reigns above.

All creation springs to motion;
All his creatures now rejoice;
Fill'd with fervor and devotion,

Raise to him their gladsome voice.

Oh! my soul, 'twas he who found thee
Shackled down by chains beneath,
When the storms of hell roll'd round thee,
Threat'ning thy eternal death:

Broke thy fetters by his suff'ring,
Rais'd thee up by his reproach;
Come then bring thy early off'ring,
Quick before thy footstool crouch.

Q

He requires no slavish office,

He demands no servile fear;

Liberty and perfect service,

These to him are held most dear.

Blessed then, eternal Father,

Son and Spirit, all adored!

Hallelujah! hallelujah!
Hallelujah! praise the Lord!

PRAISE TO JESUS.

MAY little children, mighty God,
Thy wondrous praise presume to sing?
May they approach thy blest abode,
And daily grateful off'rings bring?

Oh yes! in Jesus' hallow'd name,
We gladly seek thy gracious throne;
Through his most precious blood we claim,
Redeeming mercy as our own.

In him we peace and comfort have,
Who all our ways of woe has trod;

In him we triumph o'er the grave,
And hasten on to meet our God.

Thy infant flock, O Lord, restrain
From feelings of unholy strife;
May love in every bosom reign,

"Thro' all the changing scenes of life."

O! give us hearts to love thee more,
As each succeeding year rolls on;
Thy tender mercy we implore,
For Jesus' sake, thy only Son.

SELF-DEDICATION.

ACCEPT an infant's praise,

Thou God who dwell'st above;

Teach us thy pure unerring ways,
