all the day long for you. We're sure of this, that if you don't love them, if you don't mind them, you'll not be likely to mind anybody else; if you love not your father upon earth whom you have seen, you'll not love your Father in heaven whom you've not seen: so, that you'll stand a fair chance of being like a wicked man of whom we read in the Bible, that "he feared not God, neither regarded man."

Neglect these two things, my dear children, and you cannot fail of becoming wicked goodfor-nothing men and women.

I believe I am right in telling you, that by far the greater number of those who have come to a gallows for their crimes, have been found to be like one another in this respect,-that they could trace all their miseries to two causes: one, the breaking the Sabbath-day; the other, disregarding their duty to their parents.

But I must not say more, for you've your morning duties before you, and time is short. Pray to Jesus, who said, "Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not," that he would make you willing and able to be good

PRAYER.

Blessed Lord, who didst command little children to be brought unto Thee, and didst blame Thy disciples who would have kept them from Thee, we doubt not that Thou favorably allowest this work of ours in bringing these present children to a knowledge of Thy grace. It is not by power, O Lord, nor by might, but by Thy Spirit, that the work of our hands can at all be prospered: may it please Thee, therefore, with whom is no restraint, to save by many or by few, to ordain strength even out the mouths of babes and sucklings. FOURTEENTH ADDRESS.

ON Sunday last, my dear children, I addressed you a few words upon your duty of gratitude to God.

I told you that, from His hand you received all your blessings; parents, to attend to your bodily wants; teachers, to give you good and saving advice; and ministers, to instruct you more particularly in the way to heaven. I called these ordinary or common blessings, as compared with that great and unspeakable gift from God, which I called an extraordinary or an uncommon blessing, namely, "his own Son whom he spared not, but delivered up for us all." I further told you that, your gratitude must be evidenced or proved by your conduct, by your correct behaviour, by your good manners: first, to your parents at home, by obedience, by love, by respect; because God says, "Honor thy father and thy mother;"

then to your teachers at school, by attention, by diligence, by a constant endeavour to meet their wishes; then to your ministers at church, who are, in a special manner, your kind and affectionate advisers; who watch over you from time to time with the same anxiety and carefulness with which a shepherd watches over the lambs of his flock. And lastly, by your conduct to one another; by endeavouring to check all angry feelings, all cross and ill-natured words, all quarrelsome and proud tempers.

In these various particulars, by the observing of these rules, you are to show your gratitude to God, since by thus acting you keep the commandments of God. Your Saviour was once a little child, but as he grew up, he always obeyed those who were his supposed parents. Then you, who are children, must do likewise; taking him as your example, and as you grow up, honor and obey, and be subject to your parents. Your Saviour was once a little child, but as he grew up, he kept all the holy laws of God, he did the will of his heavenly Father in all things; and you also, as you grow up to be great girls and boys, must learn by prayer to
