Assaults of the Devil, from thy Wrath, and from everlasting Damnation,

Good Lord deliver us.

Now in all Tribulation and Anguish of Spirit, in all Dangers of Soul and Body, in Sickness and Adversity, in the Hour of Death, and in the Day of Judgment, Good Lord deliver me, Amen.

and all thy faithful People.

CONCLUSION.

Ir the honest Husbandman has any Concern for his Happiness in this World, as well as that eternal State to which we are hastening, he will lay the foregoing Things to Heart; which if he does in Simplicity and godly Sincerity, he will daily improve in all Virtue and Godliness of Living, and feel more and more of the Power and Efficacy of divine Grace his Heart.

Earnestly pray, that the Holy Ghost, the Purger of all inward Corruption, and Healer of all spiritual Diseases, would kindle such a Flame of Piety in your Breast as may burn up all your Dross. And be not discouraged by Reason of those Frailties and Infirmities of your Nature, which you do not indulge; for our compassionate Redeemer hath promised not to break the bruised Reed, nor quench the smoaking Flax.

Upon your sincere Repentance, he will relieve, heal, and comfort you; and although your Sins have heen great, yet his Mercy is still greater. And although at present you seem cold and indevout in God's Service; yet by daily Devotion, that Heaviness which hangs about you will go off. O it is a delightful Employment to enter into our Closets (as our Saviour directs) and there pray to our heavenly Father, and read and meditate on his most Holy Word. Hereby a religious Turn of Mind will be happily acquired, new Thoughts, new Words, new Actions will be produced; in short, hereby you will become a new Creature in Christ. And then no Words can express the Happiness of your Condition. But many

Persons alledge, that they are so incumbered with the Cares of this Life, that they cannot be at Leisure for these holy Exercises. But I answer, your Treasure is in Heaven, and if you are truly wise, Heaven will be your first and greatest Concern.

Others, perhaps, have long indulged themselves in Covetousness, Lust, Drunkenness, or some foul and sensual Vice: and so the Difficulty of Repentance, and the Duty of looking into the State of their Souls,. will seem hard and terrible; but if you have contracted Inclinations to Evil, which are difficult to conquer, pray consider that you have brought this Difficulty upon yourself, by your sinful Indulgences. But, be the Difficulties of Religion what they will, consider seriously that without making your Peace with God, you cannot enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Also know and understand, that the being tormented, though but one Hour, in Hell Flames, will be more intolerable than many years of sorrowing for Sins.

Now good Impressions carly made on a tender Breast, being of the last Importance towards a virtuous Life, and Holy Death: I cannot, before 1 conclude, but address myself,

1. To Parents and Guardians of Youth. 2. To young People themselves.

1. To Parents and Guardians. If you frequently tell the Children committed to your Charge, that they are not born only for this, but chiefly for another and better World; and if you are careful to season their Minds with good Instructions, and bring them up in the Nurture and Admonition of the Lord, they will happily be preserved from innumerable Sins, being so well armed against Temptations of the Flesh, the World, and the Devil; then through God's Grace they will remember their Creator in

the Days of their Youth, live with Comfort, die in Peace, and rise in Glory. But if you have shamefully neglected to bring them up in the Fear of the Lord, their Blood will be required at your Hands.

2. To young People. You are now in the Bloom of Life, and just entering upon the World. And it is to be charitably hoped that you have not yet been guilty of any great and presumptuous Sin. Now it is in your Power, by the Grace of God, with a little Care and Resolution, to save yourselves the Trouble of a long Repentance, and never feel the Misery of ungovernable Passions, and unrepented Sins. Your Souls have not as yet been defiled with any great and actual Transgressions; your Consciences speak Peace unto you: All is quiet and calm within, and you have no need to tremble for Fear of God's Judgments. But if by wicked Companions you shall at any Time hereafter be drawn ff from your Duty, and fall into a vicious Course of Life, sad and miserable will your Condition be. You may never think of returning to your Duty, but by Degrees grow hardened into Sin, and then you are undone to all Eternity. But when you come to be sick, and lie upon a Death-bed, you will passionately cry out: O that I had never gone astray; O that I could recover my lost Innocence; I would not part again with that sweet divine heavenly Com. panion, for all the Pleasures and Glories of the whole World.

It is to be hoped, that your Parents and Relations have walked before you in the Fear of God; using their best Endeavours that all committed to their Charge, might keep the Way of the

Advice

Advice of your godly Parents be lost upon you. Think on all the Troubles they have undergone, and with what Care and Anxiety they have laboured to make you everlastingly happy. Think what Consolation and Joy, it will be to them, if you answer their pious Care, and prove a Blessing to all that are round about you. Think that many Eyes are fixed upon you, taking Notice of your Behaviour: But what is more, that God, who fills all Places with his Presence, beholds all your Actions, and how can you commit any Indecency in the Sight of your Lord and your Judge!

The Gaiety of your youthful Years may tempt you to turn a deaf Ear to all this good Advice: but remember that old Age will quickly overtake you, and bow your Strength down to the Grave; and then every earthly Delight, will forsake you. Then you must take leave of all you have toiled for, of all your Friends, and whatever is dear and valuable to you: only your good Works shall follow you beyond the Grave. If you have faithfully endeavoured to make your Calling and Election sure, and are prepared for your great Change, O well is it for thee, and happy shalt thou be! For you shall go from this World of Misery, to the Paradise of the Blessed, and be admitted into the New Jerusalem, where the Souls of them that sleep in the Lord Jesus, enjoy perpetual Rest and Felicity. O most blessed Mansion of the Heavenly City! O most clear Day of Eternity, which no Night obscureth, but the Glory of God ever enlighteneth! O blessedJesus (let the devout Christian say) when shall I behold thee! when shall I contemplate the Glory of thy Kingdom! When wilt thou be unto me all in all! O when shall I be with thee in thy Kingdom, which thou hast prepared for thy Beloved, from all Eternity; I am left a poor and banished Man in the
