REVEREND SIR!

T

HE leading Doctrines in the following
Difcourfes are, "That we are loft in
Adam, and are by Nature Children of
Wrath-that we can be restored to the

Favour of God, and made happy hereafter, only by Faith in the Death and Merits of Jefus Chrift-that our corrupt Nature, derived from Adam, must be renewed by the Holy Ghoft, be fore we can lead a Life of Holiness, &c.—and that, unless we are thus born again, we cannot enter into the Kingdom of God." Of these Doctrines you have difapproved; frequently declaring they are falfe, enthufiaftic. If I had known your particular .Objections, I would have attempted an Answer to them; but, as you have not youchfafed to give them, I fhall refer you, for the Proof of my Opinions, to the Difcourfes themfelves; and here endeavour to prove they are allowed by the established Church of England, of which you profefs yourself to be, not only a Member, but a Minister.

And this Infection of Nature doth remain, yea, in them that are regenerated."

ART. X. Of Free-Will.

"The Condition of Man after the Fall of Adam is fuch, that he cannot turn and prepare himself by his own natural Strength and good Works to Faith and calling upon God: Wherefore wę have no Power to do good Works, pleafant and acceptable to God, without the Grace of God by Chrift preventing us, that we may have a good Will, and working with us, when we have that good Will."

ART. XI. Of the Juftification of Man.

"We are accounted righteous before God, only for the Merit of our Lord and Saviour Jefus Christ by Faith, and not for our own Works or Defervings. Wherefore, that we are juftified by Faith only, is a moft wholfome Doctrine, and very full of Comfort, as more largely is expreffed in the Homily of Juftification."

ART. XII. Of Good Works.

"Albeit that good Works, which are the Fruits of Faith, and follow after Juftification, cannot put away
