Ev'ry eye shall now behold him,
Rob'd in dreadful majesty ;
Deeply wailing, shall the true Messiah see. Ev'ry island, sea, and mountain.
Heaven and earth shall flee away ; All who hate him, must confounded
Hear the trump proclaim the day
Come to judgment ! come away! Now redemption long expected,
See! in solemn pomp appear! All his saints by man rejected,
Now shall meet him in the air !
Hallelujah ! see the day of God appear ! Answer thine own bride and spirit,
Hasten, Lord, the gen'ral doom !
Take thy pining exiles home;
High on thine eternal throne !
Claim the kingdom for thine own!
455. A Cloud of Witnesses. Give me the wings of faith, to rise
Within the vail, and see
How bright their glories be.
And wet their couch with tears;
With sins, and doubts, and fears.
They, with united breath,
Their triumph to his death.
(His zeal inspir'd their breast :) And following their incarnate God,
Possess'd the promis'd rest.
For his own pattern giv'n,
Shew the same path to heav'n.
456. Joys of ļleaven. COME, Lord, and warm each languid heart,
Inspire each lifeless tongue; And let the joys of heav'n impart
Their influence to our song. There on a throne (how dazzling bright!)
Th’exalted Saviour shines ;
And beams unspeakable delight
On all the heav'nly minds.
Join in immortal songs:
Employ their tuneful tongues.
grace In their full lustre shine; His wisdom, pow'r, and faithfulness,
All glorious! all divine! But O their transports ! O their songs !
What mortal thought can paint ? Transcendent glory awes our tongues,
And all our notes are faint. Lord, tune our hearts to praise and love,
Our feeble notes inspire; 'Till in thy blissful courts above
We join the heav'nly choir,
457. Heaven anticipated. On Jordan's stormy banks I stand,
And cast a wishful eye
Where my possessions lie.
That rises to my sight !
And rivers of delight!
There rocks and bills, and brooks and vales
With milk and honey flow
Shines one eternal day;
And scatters night away,
Can reach that healthful shore:
Are felt and fear'd no more.
And be for ever blest?
And in his bosom rest?
Can here no longer stay ;
Fearless I'd launch away.
458. A Prospect of Heaven. THERE is a land of pure delight,
Where saints immortal reign: Infinite day excludes the night,
And pleasures banish pain. There everlasting spring abides,
And never-with'ring flow'rs: Death, like a narrow sea, divides
This heav'nly land from ours. Sweet fields beyond the swelling flood
Stand dress'd in living green:
So to the Jews old Canaan stood,
Waile Jordan roll'd between.
To cross this narrow sea;
And tear to launch avas.
These gloomy doubts that rise,
With unbecloaded eres!
And view the landscape o'er,
Should fright us from the shore.
+39. Hecek. THERE is a land of living joy,
Beroad the utmost skies,
la boundless prospects rise. High seated on a blazing throne
Th' eternal God appears,
And awe ai obce, and cheers.
Asumes his roral xat,
His ministers of state.
Lore ex'ry heart inspires,
