14 And ye answered me, and faid, The thing which thou haft spoken, is good for us to do.

15 So I took the chief of your tribes, wife men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thoufands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.

16 And I charged your judges at that time, faying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the ftranger that is with him.

26 Notwithlanding, ve would not go up but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God.

27 And ye murmured in your tents, and faid, Because the LORD hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to deftroy us.

28 Whether fhall we go up? our brethren have dilcouraged our heart, faying, The people is greater and taller than we, the cities are great and walled up to heaven, and moreover we have feen the fons of the Anakims there.

29 Then I faid unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them.

30 The LORD your God which goeth before you, he thall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes.

31 And in the wilderness, where thou haft feen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his fon, in all the way that ye went, until ye came unto this place.

32 Yet in this thing ye did not believe the LORD your God.

33 Who went in the way before you to fearch you out a place to pitch your tents is, in fire by night to fhew you by what way ye fhould go, and in a cloud by day.

24 And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and fware faying,

36 Save Caleb the fon of Jephunneh, he fhall fee it, and to him will I give the land y he hath treden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed LORD. 27 Alfo the LORD was angry with me for your fakes, faying, Thou a fo fhalt not go in thither.

40 But as for you, thrn ye, and take your journey into the wilderness, by the way of the Red-fea.

43 So I pake unto you, and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went prefumptuously up into the hill.

44 And the Amorites which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chafed you as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.

45 And ye returned and wept before the LORD; but the LORD would not hearken to your voice, nor give ear unto you. 46 So ye abode in Kadefh many days, according unto the days that ye abode there. С НА Р. 11.

I The flory is continued touching the Ego mites, 9 the Moabites, 7 the Amonites, 24 And Sibon the Amorite.

Hen we turned and took our journey

into the wilderness, by the way of the Red-fea, as the LORD pake unto me: and we compaffed mcunt Seir many days.

2 And the LORD fpake unto me, faying, 3 Ye have compaffed this mountain long enough: turn you north-ward,

4 And command thou the people, faying, Ye are to Fals through the coatt of your brethren the children of Efau, which dwell in Seir, and they thall be afraid of you: Take ye good heed unto your felves therefore.

5 Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no not fo much as a foot breadth, because I have given mount Seir unto Efau for a poffeffion.

6 Ye fhall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall alfo buy water of them for money, that ye n ay drink.

7 For the LORD thy God hath bleffed thee in all the works of thy hard: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: this fourty years the LORD thy God bath been with thee, thou hatt lacked nothing.

8 And when we paffed by from our brethren the children of Efau, which d vet in Seir through the way of Splain from Elath, and from Ezion-gaber, we turned and paffed by the way of the wilderness of Moan.

9 And the LORD faid unto me, Ditress not the Moabites, reither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a poffeffion, because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot. for a poffeffion.

15 For indeed the band of the LORD was agamit them, to destroy them from among the holt, untill they were consumed. 16 So it came to pais, when all the men of war were coníumed and dead from among the people,

17 That the LORD fpake uno me faying, 18 Thou art to pafs over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day.

19 And when thou comelt nigh over against the children of Ammon, dittrefs them not, nor meddle with them: for 1 will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon any poffeffion, because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a poffeffion.

31 And the LORD faid unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to poffefs, that thou mayelt inherit his land.

32 Then Sihon came out against us, he, and all his people, to fight at Jahaz..

33 And the LORD or God delivered him before us, and we fmote him, and his fons, and all his people.

34 And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly deftroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones of every city, we left none to remain:

35 Only the cattle we took for a prey unto our felves, and the fpoil of the cities which we took.

25 From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon and from the city y is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too ftrong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us.

37 Only unto the land of the children of Ammon thou cameft not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbock, nor unto the cities, in the mountains, nor unto whatioever the LORD our God torbad us. СНАР. 111. 1 Of Og king of Baiban. 23 Mofes prayer to enter into the land. 26 He is permitted to See it.

Hen, we turned and went up the way to Bafhan and Og the king of Bathan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.

2 And the LORD faid unto me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him and all his people, and his land into thy hand, and thou fhalt do unto him as thou didit unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Hefhbon.

3 So the LORD our God delivered into our hands Og alfo, the king of Bathan, and all his people: and we fmote him until none was left to him remaining.

24 Rife ye up, take your journey, and pals over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sinon the Amorite 4 And we took all his cities at that time, king of Heimbon, and his land: begin to there was not a city which we took not poffefs it and contend with them in battle. from them, threefcore cities, all the region 35 This day will I begin to put the dread of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bathan. of thee and the fear of thee upon the na- 5 All thefe cities were fenced with high tions that are under the whole heaven, walls, gares and bars, befide unwalled who thall hear report of thee, and thall towns a great many; tremble, and be in anguifh becaufe of thee. 25 And I fent melengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth, unto Sihon king of Hefhbon, with words of peace, faying, 27 Let me pafs through thy land: I will go a ong by the high-way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left. 28 Thou shalt fell me meat for money, that I may eat and give me water for moGey, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet.

6 And we uterly deftroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Hefhbon, utterly deftroying the men, women, and children of every city.

7 But all the cattel, and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to our felves.

8 And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites, the land that was on this fide Jordan from the river of Arnon unto mount Hermon: 9 ( Which Hermon the Sidonians call 9 As the children of Efau which Sirion: And the Amorites call it Shenir. ) dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which To All the cities of the plain, and all Gidwell in Ar, did unto me) until I fhall lead, and allBathan, unt Salchah & Edrei, pafs over Jordan, into the land which the cites of the kingdom of Og in Bathan. Chap iv, 11 For only Og king of Bafhan remained of the remnant of giants; behold his bedstead was a beditead of iron is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon ? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.

12 And this land which we poffeffed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reube nites, and to the Gadites.

13 And the relt of Gilead, and allBafhan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manaffeh; all the region of Argob, with all Bafhan, which was called the land of giants.

14 Jair the fon of Manaffeh took all the Country of Argob, unto the coats of Gefhuri, and Maachathi: and called them after his own name, Bathan-havoth-jair, unto this day.

15 And I gave Gilead unto Machir.

16 And unto the Reubenites, and unto the Gadites, I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon, half the valley, and the border, even unto the river Jubbock, wbicb is the border of the children of Ammon: 17 The plain alfo, and Jordan, and the coaft thereof, from Chinnereth even unto the fea of the plain, even the falt-fea, under Afhdoth-pifgah eastward.

18 And 1 commanded you at that time, faying, The LORD your God hath given you this land to poffefs it: ye fhail pafs over armed before your brethren the children of Ifrael,all that are meet for the war. 19 But your wives, and your little ones, and your cattle (for I know that ye bave much cattel) thall abide in your cities which I have given you;

20 Until the LORD hath given reft unto your brethren, as well as unto you, and unfil they alfo poffels the land wich LORD your God have given them beyond Jordan: and then fhall ye return every men unto his poffeffion which I have given you.

21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, faying, Thine Eyes have seen all that the LORD your God hath dose unto thefe two kings: fo fhall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms whither thou paffelt.

22 Ye shall not fear them for the LORD your God he fhall fight for you.

23 And I befought the LORD at that time, faying,

28 But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and Itrengthen him: for he thall go over before this people and he fhall caufe them to inherit the land & thou fhalt fee. 29 So we abode in the valley over againit Beth-peor.

CHAP. IV.

1 An exbortation to obedience. 41 Mofesappointeth the three cities of refuge on that fide jordan

Now therefore hearken, O Ifrael, unto the ftatutes, and unto the judgments which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and poffefs the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.

2 Ye shall not add unto the word which 1 command you, neither fhall you diminith ought from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

3 Your eyes have feen what the LORD did, becaufe of Baal-peor; for all the men that followed Baal-peor, the LORD thy God hath deftroyed them from among you. 4 But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God, are alive every one of yon this day.

5 Behold, I have taught you ftatutes and judgements even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye fhould do fo in the land whither ye go to poffefs it.

6 Keep therefore and do them, for this is your wifdom and your undertanding in the fight of the nations, which hall hear all thefe ftatutes, and fay, Surely this great nation is a wife and understanding people.

7 For what nation is there fo great, whe bath God fo nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?

8 And what nation is there fo great, that hath Statutes and judgments fo righteous, as all this law which I fet before you this day?

20 But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, eve out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day.

21 Furthermore, the LORD was angry with me for your fakes, and fware that I fhould not go over Jordan, and that I fhould not go in unto that good land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

22 But I must die in this land I muft not go over Jordan: but ye shall go over and paffe's that good land.

23 Take heed unto your felves left ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likenels of any thing which the LORD thy God hath for bidden thee.
