A few words spoken by MR. FORD to his congregation Tuesday evening, December 15th, 1874, the last time he was able to address them.

66

My flesh and my heart are so failing, but just this word, "Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done." If I should be able to speak anything, it will be only what is contained in this word. I feel much may be said of the importance of praying that prayer. Nothing will prosper without the rule and government of Christ; and this is so neglected in the world, that unless the Lord puts it into the hearts of His people to pray for it both in the world and in the Church (I mean the gospel churches), and unless the Lord pour upon them the spirit of grace and of supplications, I am persuaded it will be a solemn moment for them when they come to die. Therefore, I beg of you to watch, and to agree to pray after this manner, Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." I need not tell you I as fully believe as any in the decrees of Heaven, but that is not the point the Lord is pressing upon His disciples here, nor is it that which is immediately affecting you and me now, as to the revival of His work, that He would "set His hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His people." If God set these things more immediately on the heart, He will bring us to bow to His pleasure, and to His ways in the accomplishment of His will, as it is said, "God be merciful unto us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us; that Thy way may be known upon earth, Thy saving health among all nations." God grant it in your cases, and in the cases of all who call on the name of the Lord for Jesus sake. Amen.
