The Epifle. Col. 3. 1. Fye then be rifen with Chrift, I leek thofe things which are above, where Chrift fitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth: for ye are dead, and your life is hid with Chrift in God. When Christ,

who is our life, shall appear then fhall ye alfo appears with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleannefs, inordinate affection, evil concupifcence, and covetoufnefs, which is idolatry: For which things fake the wrath of God cometh on the children of difobedience. In the which ye alfo walked fome time, when ye lived in them.

Then went in also that other difciple which came firft to the fepulchre, and he faw and believed. For as yet they knew not the Scripture, that he muft rife again from the dead. Then the difciples went away again unto their own home.

And we are witneffes of all things which he did, both in the land of the Jews and in Jerufalem; whom they flew, and hanged on a tree Him God raifed up the third day; and thewed him openly: not to all the people, but unto witneffes chofen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rofe from the dead. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to teftify that it is he which was ordained of God, to be the judge or quick and dead. And he frid unto them, What things? And they faid unto him, Concerning Jefus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word, before Cod and all the people: and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him But we trusted that it had been he which fhould have redeemed Ifrael; and befide all this, to-day is the third day fince there things were done. And certain of them which were with us, went to the fepulchre, and found it even fo as the women had faid; but him they faw not." Then he faid unto them, O fools, and flow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! ought not Chrift to have fuffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Mcfes, and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went; and he made as though, he would have gone further: but they conftrained him,, faying, Abide with us; for it is towards evening, and the day is far fpent. And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a fepulchre. But God raifed him from the dead: and he was feen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerufalem, wha are his witneffes unto the people. And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promife which was made unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the fame unto us their children, in that he hath raifed up Jefus again; as it is alfo written in the fecond pfalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he faid on this wife, I will give

the fure mercies of David.

Wherefore he faith alfo in anofer thine Holy One to fee corther pfalm, Thou shalt not fufwill of God, fell on fleep, and ruption. For David, after he had ferved his own generation by the was laid unto his fathers, and

faw corruption: but he whom God raifed again, faw no corruption. Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that though this man is preachfins and by him all that believe ed unto you the forgiveness of are juftified from all things, from which ye could not be juftified by the law of Mofes. Beware therefore left that come upon you which is fpoken of in the prophets; Rehold, ye defpifers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shallin no wife believe, though a man declare it unto you.

For the Epifle. A&ts 13. 26. EN and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whofoever among you fear eth God, to you is the word of this falvation fent. For they that dwell at Jerufalem, and their rulers, becaufe they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every fabbath-day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him: The Gospel. they were terrified and affright, ed, and fuppofed that they had feen a fpirit. And he faid unto them, why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arife in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myfelf: handie me, and fee: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye fee me have. And when he had thus fpoken, he fhewed them his hands and his feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he faid unto them, Have ye here any meat? and they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them. And he faid unto them, Thefe are the words which I fpake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Mofes, and in the prophets, and in the pfalms concerning me. Then opened he their underftanding, that they might underftand the Scriptures; and faid unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Chrift to fuffer, and to rife from the dead the third day; and that repentance and remiffion of fins fhould be preached in his Name among all nations, beginning at Jerufalem. And ye are witneffes of these things.

the world;

The Epifle. 1S. John 3. 4. Whatsoever is horn of God, and this is the victory that over cometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jefus is the Son of God? This is he that came by water and blood, even Jefus Chrift; not by water only, but by water and blood: and it is the fpirit that beareth witnefs, because the spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word," and the Holy Ghoft: and thefe three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the fpirit, and the water, and theblood and these three agree in one. If we receive the witnefs of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witnefs of God which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the wits nefs in himfelf: he that believeth not God, hath made him a lyar, becaufe he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son, hath life; and he that hath not the Son, hath not life.

The Gofpel. S. John 20. 19. Tbeing the firft day of the

faid this, he breathed on them, and aid unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghoft: Whofe-foever fins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whofe-foever fin's ye retain, they are retained. The fecond Sunday after Eafter.

The Collect.

Α Lmighty God, who haft giv. en thine only Son to be unto us both a facrifice for fin, and alfo an enfample of godly life; Give us grace, that we may al ways moft thankfully receive that his inestimable benefit, and alfo daily endeavour ourfelves to follow the bleffed steps of his moft holy life, through the fame Jefus Chrift our Lord. Amen.

The Epifle. 1S. Pet. 2. 19. Tuman for confcience toward THIS is thank-worthy, if a God endure grief, fuffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye fhall take it patiently? But if when ye do well, and fuffer for it, ye take it patiently; this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called because Chrift alfo fuffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye fhould follow his fteps: who did no fin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he fuffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously who his own felf bare our fins in his own body on the tree, that we being dead to fin, fhould live unto righteousness, by whofe ftripes ye were healed. For ye were as Theep going aftray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your Souls.

The Gospel. S. John 10. 11. ESUS faid, I am the good the

Bat he that is an hireling, and not the fhepherd, whofe own the fheep are not, feeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the theep, and fleeth; and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the fheep. The hireling fleeth, becaufe he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. I am the good fhepherd, and know my fleep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even fo know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other heep I have, which are not of this fold; them alfo I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold and one thepherd. Z
