FEASTS OF NOVEMBER.

1. FEAST OF ALL SAINTS. Double 1st Class with Octave.

BOTH VESPERS.

First Four Psalms of Sunday, p. 1.

1 Ant.

I saw a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations standing before the throne.

And all the angels stood round about the throne, and they fell down before the throne, and adored God.

Thou hast redeemed us, O Lord God, in thy blood, out of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation, and hast made of us a kingdom unto our God.

Bless the Lord all ye his elect, keep a day of gladness and give thanks unto him.

A hymn for all his Saints, for the children of Israel, for the people that is nigh unto him; this glory have all his Saints. 5th Ps. I. Vesp. Laudate Dominum, p. 20. II. Vesp. Credidi propter quod, p. 11.

FIRST VESPERS.

Ant. Mag.

p. 70.

O ye angels and archangels, thrones and dominions, principalities and powers, ye hosts of heaven, cherubim and seraphim, ye patriarchs and prophets, and holy doctors of the law, apostles, and all martyrs of Christ, holy confessors and virgins of the Lord, hermits and all saints, intercede for us.

SECOND VESPERS.

Coll. Omnipotens sempiterne Deus, qui nos omnium Sanctorum tuorum merita sub una tribuisti celebritate venerari: quæsumus, ut desideratam nobis tuæ propitiationis abundantiam, multiplicatis intercessoribus, largiaris.

Oh, how glorious is the kingdom in which all the Saints rejoice with Christ, and, clothed in white garments, follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth.

Almighty everlasting God, who givest us to venerate in one solemnity the merits of all thy Saints, we beseech thee to bestow upon us, through our multiplied intercessors, the fulness of thy propitiation.

Vespers for the Dead.

Used on All Souls' Day, immediately after the Second Vespers of All Saints.

Ant. Placebo Domino.

I will please the Lord.

Psalm cxiv.

Dilexi, quoniam exaudiet Dominus vocem orationis meæ.

Quia inclinavit aurem suam mihi et in diebus meis invocabo.

Circumdederunt me dolores mortis: et pericula inferni invenerunt me.

Tribulationem et dolorem inveni: et nomen Domini invocavi.

O Domine, libera animam meam, misericors Dominus, et justus, et Deus noster miseretur.

Custodiens parvulos Dominus humiliatus sum, et liberavit me.

Convertere, anima mea, in requiem tuam: quia Dominus benefecit tibi.

Quia eripuit animam meam de morte, oculos meos a lacrymis, pedes meos a lapsu.

Placebo Domino in regione vivorum.

1 I have loved: because the Lord will hear the voice of my prayer.

2 Because he hath inclined his ear unto me: and in my days will I call upon him.

3 The sorrows of death have compassed me and the perils of hell have found

me.

4 I met with trouble and sorrow: and I called on the name of the Lord.

5 O Lord, deliver my soul: the Lord is merciful and just, and our God sheweth mercy.

6 The Lord is the keeper of little ones: I was humbled, and he delivered me.

7 Turn, O my soul, unto thy rest: for the Lord hath been bountiful to thee.

8 For he hath delivered my soul from death: mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.

9 I will please the Lord: in the land of the living.

[blocks in formation]

Domine libera animam meam a labiis iniquis: et a lingua dolosa.

Ant. Hei mihi, Domine, quia incolatus meus prolongatus est.

1 In my trouble I cried to the Lord: and he heard me.

2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from wicked lips: and from a deceitful tongue.

3 What can be given thee, or what can be added to thee: to a deceitful tongue ?

The sharp arrows of the mighty: with destroying coals of fire.

5 Wo is me that my sojourn is prolonged: I have dwelt with the inhabitants of Cedar: my soul hath long been a sojourner.

6 With them that hated peace I was peaceable : when I spoke to them, they fought against me without

a cause.

Eternal rest, &c.

Wo is me, O Lord: that my sojourning is prolonged.
