Ant. Mag. Sacerdos et pontifex, et virtutum opifex, pastor bone in populo, ora pro nobis Dominum.

O priest and bishop, thou worker of all virtue, good shepherd of thy people, pray unto the Lord for us.

SECOND VESPERS.

Amavit eum Dominus, et ornavit eum: stolam gloriæ induit eum, et ad portas paradisi coronavit

eum.

The Lord loved him and adorned him: he clothed him with a robe of glory, and crowned him at the gates of paradise.

FOR COMMEMORATION WHEN THE FEASTS OF TWO CONFESSOR BISHOPS FALL ON THE SAME DAY.

Euge, serve bone et fidelis, quia in pauca fuisti fidelis, supra multa te constituam, dicit Dominus.

Coll. Da, quæsumus, omnipotens Deus: ut beati N. confessoris tui atque pontificis veneranda solemnitas et devotionem nobis augeat, et salutem. Per, &c.

Well done, good and faithful servant; because thou hast been faithful in a few things, I will set thee over many things, saith the Lord.

Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God, that the venerable solemnity of blessed N., thy confessor and bishop, may promote both our devotion and salvation. Through, &c.

Coll. Deus, qui populo tuo æternæ salutis beatum N. ministrum tribuisti: præsta, quæsumus; ut quem doctorem vitæ habuimus in terris, intercessorem habere mereamur in cœlis. Per Dominum, &c.

O illustrious doctor, thou light of the holy Church, blessed N., thou lover of the divine law, intercede with the Son of God for us.

O God, who didst give unto thy people blessed N. to be a minister of eternal salvation; grant, we beseech thee, that we may be found worthy to have the same for an intercessor in heaven, whom we have had for a teacher of life upon earth.

Well done, good servant; because thou hast been faithful in a little, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.

A faithful and wise servant, whom the Lord hath set over his household.

Blessed is that servant whom, when his Lord cometh and knocketh at the door, he shall find watching.

Good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. Dominum, p. 20.

Blessed is the man that is found without blemish, that hath not gone after gold, nor put his trust in riches and treasures. Who is he, and we will praise him? for in his life he hath done wonderful things. and ỹ. and R., p. 44.

I will liken him to a wise man, that built his house upon a rock.

This man despising the world, and triumphing over earthly things, hath laid up treasure in heaven by word and deed.

Coll. Adesto, Domine, supplicationibus nostris, quas in beati N. confessoris tui solemnitate deferimus: ut, qui nostræ justitiæ fiduciain non habemus, ejus, qui tibi placuit, precibus adjuvemur. Per, &c.

O God, who dost gladden us with the annual solemnity of blessed N., thy confessor; mercifully grant, that as we celebrate his birthday to immortality, we may also imitate his actions. Through, &c.

Give ear, O Lord, to our supplications which we offer unto thee in the solemnity of blessed N., thy confessor, that as we trust not in our own justice, we may be aided by the prayers of him who was pleasing to thee. Through, &c.

This is a wise virgin, and one of the number of the prudent.

This is a wise virgin, whom the Lord found watching.

This is she who knew not the bed of dishonour; she shall have her fruit in the esteem of holy souls.

Come, my chosen one, and I will place my throne within thee, Alleluia.

This one is beautiful among the daughters of Jerusalem.

Brethren, he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but he whom God commendeth. and Y. and R., p. 46.

Come, spouse of Christ, receive the crown which the Lord hath prepared for thee for eternity.
