15. Och blef der intill Herodis dåd: på det att fullbordas skulle, det som fagdt war af HERranom genom Propheten, som sade: Utaf Egypten hafwer jag kallat min Son.

16. Når Herodes nu såg, att han war beswiken af de wisa mån, blef han ganska wred, och sånde ut, och låt slå ihjäl alla swenbarn i Bethlehem, och i alla des grånsor, de som twågga åra, och der förnedan word, efter den tiden, som han hade granneligen besport af de wisa mån.

21. Han stod upp, och tog barnet, och des moder till sig, och for in uti Israels land.

heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

19 ¶ But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

N those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,

2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

4 And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about Jordan,

6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

5. Då gid Jerusalems stad ut till honom, och hela Judiska landet, och alla land, fom ligga utmed Jordan, 6. Och låto dopa sig af honom i Jordan, och bekände sina synder. 7. 11. Jag döper eder i watten, till båttring; men den efter mig kommer, år starkare ån jag, hwilkens stor jag ide år mårdig att båra: han stall

8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes. I am not worthy to

13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14 But John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

THE

CHAPTER IV.

HEN was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward ahungered.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall

9. Och fade till honom: Alt detta will jag gifwa dig, om du faller ned, och tillbeder mig.

10. Då fade JEsus till honom : Gad bort, Satan; th det år skrifwit: HERran din Gud skall du tillbedja, och honom allena skall du tjena.

11. Då dfwergaf djefwulen honom, och st, Änglarne gingo fram, och tjente honom.

12. Då nu JEsus hårde, att Johannes war fången, drog han in i Galileen;

13. Och öfwergaf Nazaret, och kom och bodde i Capernaum, som ligger wid hafwet, på grånsen wid Zabulon och Nephthalim :

14. På det att fullkomnas skulle, det som fagdt war genom Esaia Propheten, som sade:

15. Det landet Zabulon, och det landet Nephthalim, wid hafwets wåg, på denna sidan Jordan, och den hed nisfa Galileen:

16. Folket, som satt i mörkret, hafwer sett ett stort ljus; och dem, som bodde i dödsens engd och skugga, år ett ljus uppgångit.

17. Jfrån den tiden begynte JEsus till att predifa, och fade: Görer bått ring himmelriket år kommit hardt når.

18. Når JEsus gick utmed det Galileesta haswet, såg han twå bröder, Simon, som kallas Petrus, och Andreas hans broder, de kastade sina nåt i haswet; ty de woro fiskåre.

19. Och han fade till dem: Följer

they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

12 ¶ Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee ;

13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim :

14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;

16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

18 ¶ And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea for they were fishers.

19 And he saith unto them, Fol

15. Då swarade JEsus, och sade till honom: Låt det nu så ste; så bör det sig wara med oß, att wi uppfylle all råttfärdighet. Då tillstadde han ho

nom det.

16. Och når JEsus war döpt, steg han stray upp af wattnet: och fl, då wardt honom himmelen öppnad, och han såg Guds Anda nederfara, som en dufwa, och komma åfwer honom.

17. Och st, en röst af himmelen sade: Denne år min fåre Son, i hwilken jag hafwer ett godt behag.

4. Capitel.

2. Och når han hade fastat i fyratio dagar, och fyratio nåtter, så hungrade honom.

3. Och frestaren gick fram till honom, och fade: Åst du Guds Son, få såg, att desse stenar warda bröd.

4. Då swarade han, och sade: Det år skrifwit: Menniskan lefwer icke allenast af bröd, utan af hwart och ett ord, som går af Guds mun.

5 Då tog djefwulen honom med sig till den heliga staden, och satte honom öfwerst på tinnarna af templet,

6. Och fade till honom : Äst du Guds Son, så gif dig hår utföre; th det år Skrifmit Han stall gifwa sina Änglar
