O most gracious God, Father of mercies, and God of all consolation, who wouldest not that any should perish who believe and hope in Thee; according to the multitude of Thy mercies, look favourably upon Thy servant, whom a true Christian faith and hope commend unto Thee. Visit him (or her) in Thy salvation; and through the Passion and death of Thy only-begotten Son,graciously grant unto him (or her) the pardon and remission of all his (or her) sins; that his (or her) soul at the hour of its departure may find in Thee a most merciful

May our Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, who gave to His blessed Apostle Peter the power of binding and loosing, in His most loving mercy receive thy confession, and restore to thee that first robe which thou didst receive in baptism; and through the plenary indulgence of the Supreme Pontiffs granted to us in the article of death, may He free thee from the penalties of the present and future life; may He vouchsafe to remit the pains of purgatory, to shut the gates of hell, to open the door of paradise, and to bring thee to everlasting joy, through the most sacred mysteries of His life, passion, and glorification. In case of necessity, after having caused the Confiteor to be recited, the Priest may say only, Misereatur, &c.; In

Auctoritate Sedis Apostolicæ mihi pro nunc commissa, concedo tibi plenariam remissionem peccatorum tuorum, in nomine Patris,+et Filii,+et Spiritus Sancti. + Amen.

By the authority of the Apostolic See with which I am now commissioned, I grant thee full remission of thy sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.+Amen.

ANOTHER FORMULA OF GENERAL ABSOLUTION FOR THE ARTICLE OF DEATH.

An assistant having recited the Confiteor, the Priest says, Misereatur, &c.; Indulgentiam, &c.; and then:

Dominus noster Jesus Christus, per merita suæ sacratissimæ Passionis te absolvat, et gratiam suam tibi infundat; et ego auctoritate ipsius, ac beatorum Apostolorum Petri et Pauli, et Summorum Pon

May our Lord Jesus Christ, through the merits of His most holy Passion, absolve thee and fill thee with His grace; and by His authority, and also by that of the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and of

tificum, mihi in hac parte commissa et tibi concessa, absolve te ab omni vinculo

excommunicationis majoris, vel minoris si quod incurristi, et restituo te unioni et participationi Fidelium, necnon sanctis sacramentis Ecclesiæ. Item eadem auctoritate ego te absolvo ab omnibus peccatis tuis, tibique relaxo omnes pœnas purgatorii, quas pro peccatis commissis meruisti, concedens tibi remissionem et indulgentiam plenariam omnium peccatorum tuorum, et restituo te illi statui innocentiæ in quo eras quando baptizatus fuisti. In nomine Patris, + et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. + Amen.

Quod si hac vice non discesseris, reservo tibi hanc gratiam usque ad extremum mortis tuæ articulum.

the Supreme Pontiffs, with which I am in this part commissioned, and which is granted to thee, I absolve thee from every bond of the greater or lesser excommunication, if thou shouldst have fallen into any, and I restore thee to the union and participation of the faithful, and to the holy sacraments of the Church. Also, by the same authority, I absolve thee from all thy sins, and relieve thee from all the pains of purgatory, which thou hast deserved for thy sins; and I grant to thee remission and plenary indulgence of all thy sins, and restore thee to baptismal innocence. In the name of the Father, + and of the Son,+ and of the Holy Ghost. + Amen.

And, if thou keepest in this disposition, I reserve this grace for thee, even to the last moment of thy life.
