promissionibus Christi.

Oremus.

Domine Jesu Christe, qui frigescente mundo ad inflammandum corda nostra tui amoris igne, in carne beatissimi Patris nostri Francisci Passionis tuæ sacra Stigmata renovasti: concede propitius; ut ejus meritis, et precibus crucem jugiter feramus, et dignos fructus pœnitentiæ facia

V. Let us pray for our Sovereign Pontiff N.

R. The Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.

Let us pray.

O Lord Jesus Christ, who, when the world was growing cold, didst renew the sacred marks of Thy Passion in the flesh of our most blessed Father St. Francis, to inflame our hearts with the fire of Thy love; mercifully grant, that by his merits and prayers we may always carry the cross, and bring forth worthy fruits of pe

those things that are pleasing to Thee, and perform them with all his strength. Through Christ our Lord. R. Amen.

For the Brothers, the Sisters, and the Benefactors of the Congregation who are deceased.

Ant. Si iniquitates.

Ant. If iniquities.

Psalm cxxix.

Fiant aures tuæ intendentes in vocem deprecationis meæ.

Sustinuit anima mea in verbo ejus speravit anima mea in Domino.

A custodia matutina usque ad noctem, speravit anima mea in Domino.

Out of the depths have I cried unto Thee, O Lord: Lord, hear my voice.

O, let Thine ears consider well: the voice of my supplication.

If Thou, O Lord, shalt mark iniquities: Lord, who shall abide it?

For with Thee there is propitiation: and because of Thy law I have waited for Thee, O Lord.

My soul hath waited on His word: my soul hath hoped in the Lord.

From the morning watch even until night: let Israel hope in the Lord.

For with the Lord there is mercy and with Him is plenteous redemption.

And He shall redeem Israel: from all his iniquities.

The Father Director then gives the benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, if he has authority from the Bishop of the diocese; if not, he gives benediction with the crucifix, saying: V. Adjutorium nostrum

V. Sit nomen Domini benedictum.

R. Amen.

V. Our help is in the

R. Who made heaven and earth.

V. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

SENTENCES OR SAINTS OF THE MONTH.

Saints or Sentences of the Month is the name given here to the tickets that bear the name of a Saint, a virtue of this Saint, a sentence on this virtue, and a particular intention for which it is recommended to pray. These tickets are distributed every month in the assemblies of the Brothers and Sisters. At the conclusion of the prayers of the assembly, the Brother Rector leaves his place,-followed by the Assistant on his right, the Master or Mistress of the Novices on the left, and the other Brothers or Sisters walking two and two, modestly and in silence, according to their rank, dignity, or profession,-and kneels before the rails of the sanctuary, behind which is the Father Director with the tickets of the Saints of the month, which he distributes as soon as the Brothers or Sisters present themselves. In order to derive benefit from this salutary practice, the Brothers and Sisters must endeavour to observe what follows:

1. As soon as their Saint has been chosen, they shall place themselves under his protection, and make a solemn engagement with him to honour him in a special manner during the whole month.

2. They shall read his life at the beginning of the month, in order to excite in themselves the love of God, contempt of the world, the practice of virtues and good works, and to choose from the virtues of the Saint that which is most in accordance with their state and requirements.

3. They shall fix on two periods during the day, the one longer, the other shorter, to honour him. During the former they shall invoke him to aid them in practising carefully that one among his virtues which God
