Credo in Spiritum sanctum, sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam, sanctorum communionem, remissionem peccatorum, carnis resurrectionem, vitam æternam. Amen.

R. Amen.

Indulgentiam, absolutionem et remissionem peccatorum nostrorum tribuat nobis omnipotens et misericors Dominus.

R. Amen.

R. Amen.

Domine, in unione illius divinæ intentionis, qua ipse in terris laudes Deo persolvisti, has tibi Horas persolvo.

Oremus.

[blocks in formation]

God, who mercifully grantest to all sinners, seeking pardon and mercy, all that they desire and wish for; we pray Thee, of Thy great mercy, that Thou wouldst vouchsafe to bless + and sanctify this cord, that whoever shall be girded with it as a penance, and shall implore Thy mercy, may, through the merits and intercession of Thy most blessed servant Francis, our Father, obtain pardon of and remission of his (or her) sins, and the fruits of Thy divine mercy. Through Christ our Lord. R. Amen.

The Priest sprinkles the cord with holy water, and gives it to the person, saying:

Accipe chordam beati Patris nostri Francisci, in signum timoris, temper

Amen.

Deus, qui Ecclesiam tuam, beati Patris nostri Francisci meritis foetu novæ prolis amplificas; tribue nobis ex ejus imitatione terrena despicere, et cœlestium donorum semper participatione gaudere. Per Christum Dominum nostrum. R. Amen.

Receive the cord of our blessed Father Francis, that thou mayst be girded therewith, as a sign of fear, temperance, and chastity. In the name of the Father, + and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

O God, who, through the merits of blessed Francis, dost enlarge Thy Church by the progeny of a new offspring; grant unto us that, by imitating him, we may despise earthly things, and ever rejoice in the participation of heavenly gifts. Through our Lord, &c. R. Amen.

The Priest adds immediately: Ego auctoritate qua fungor, et mihi concessa, recipio te, et suscipio ad participationem omnium bonorum spiritualium quæ in toto Ordine Seraphici Patris nostri Francisci, ex gratia Dei, peraguntur. In nomine Patris,+ et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.

I, by the authority, which I administer, and which is given to me, reIceive thee to the full participation of all the spiritual blessings which are, by the grace of God, attached to the whole Order of our Seraphic Father Francis. In the name of the Father, + and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
