took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk."-Matt. xxii. 15.

"After these things, Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him."-John vii. I.

PROPHECY." I will set up one Shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. And I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the Lord have spoken it."-Ezek. xxxiv. 23, 24.; xxxvii. 24.

"For thus saith the Lord God, Behold I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out." Ezek. xxxiv. 11.

FULFILMENT. "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep."-John x. 11.

"And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd." -John x. 16.

"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."—Luke xix. 10.

PROPHECY.- "After three-score and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself." Dan. ix. 26.

"He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities.”—Isa. liii. 5.

"For the transgression of my people was he stricken."-Isa. liii. 8.

"The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all."-Isa. liii. 6.

FULFILMENT. "Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, nor consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that

Jesus should die for that nation; and not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death."-John xi. 49–53.

PROPHECY." They weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver."-Zech. xi. 12.

"Mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me."-Psa. xli. 9. /

FULFILMENT." Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, and said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver."-Matt. xxvi. 14, 15.

"Now when even was come, he sat down with the twelve. And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me...... Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said." -Matt. xxvi. 20, 21, 25.

"I speak not of you all; I know whom I have chosen but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me, hath lifted up his heel against me."-John xiii. 18.

PROPHECY" Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered."-Zech. xiii. 7.

FULFILMENT.-Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad."-Matt. xxvi. 31.

PROPHECY." My heart is sore pained within me; and the terrors of death are fallen upon me. Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me."-Psa. lv. 4, 5.

FULFILMENT.- "Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane,...... and began to be very sorrowful (sore amazed,*) and very heavy. Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death."-Matt. xxvi. 36-38.

“ And being in an agony, he prayed more earnestly and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground."-Luke xxii. 44.

PROPHECY.-"He hath put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him; he hath broken his covenant. The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.". Psa. lv. 20, 21.

FULFILMENT."Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude, with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he hold him fast. And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, Master; and kissed him."-Matt. xxvi. 47-49.

PROPHECY." I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me."-Psa. xxxi. 11.

My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore ; and my kinsmen stand afar off. They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long."-Psa. xxxviii. 11, 12.

FULFILMENT.. "All this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled."-Matt. xxvi. 56.

"And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled."-Matt. xxvi. 57.

PROPHECY.—“ False witnesses did rise up: they laid to my charge things that I knew not.”—Psa. xxxv. 11.

"He was oppressed, and he was afflicted; yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth."-Isa. liii. 7.

"I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs."-Psa. xxxviii. 13, 14.

FULFILMENT." Now the chief priests and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; but found none.

..At the last came two false witnesses, and said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing?......But Jesus held his peace."-Matt. xxvi. 59-63.

"Then saith Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly."-Matt. xxvii. 13, 14.

PROPHECY." In mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together; yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not. With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth."-Psa. xxxv. 15, 16.

"I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting."-Isa. 1. 6.

FULFILMENT.- "And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him. And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? And many other things blasphemously spake they against him."-Luke xxii. 63–65.

"Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands."-Matt. xxvi. 67.

PROPHECY." They shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.”—Micah v. 1.

"He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.”—Isa. liii. 3.

FULFILMENT." When they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head."-Matt. xxvii. 29, 30.

PROPHECY." The plowers plowed upon my back; they made long their furrows.-Psa. cxxix. 3. FULFILMENT. "Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him."-John xix. i.

PROPHECY." The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be."-Gen. xlix. 10.

FULFILMENT.- "Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him and crucify him; for I find no fault in him. The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God." John xix. 6, 7.

"Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die."-John xviii. 31, 32.

PROPHECY.- ." And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.
