through the operation of the Spirit, to inftruct and build up the elect in faith in the promised Meffiah, by whom they had full remiffion of fins, and eternal falvation; and is called The Old Teftament m. VI. Under the gofpel, when Chrift the fubftance" was exibited, the ordinances in which this covenant is difpenfed are the preaching of the word, and the administration of the facraments of Baptifm and the Lord's Supper ; which, though fewer fee my day: and he faw it, and was glad. be not circumcifed; that righteoufnefs might be imputed unto them alfo. Col. ii. 1. In whom alfo ye are circumcifed with the circumcifion made without hands, in putting off the body of the fins of the fleth by the circumcifion of Chrift: V. 12. Buried with him in baptifm, wherein alfo ye are rifen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath Failed him from the dead. 1 Cor. v. 1. Purge out, therefore, the old leaven, that ye maybe anewlump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our paffover is facrificed for us. 1 1 Cor. x. 1. Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye fhould be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all pafled through the fea; V. 2. And were all baptized unto Mofes in the cloud, and in the fea; V. 3. And did all eat the fame fpiritual meat; V. 4. And did all drink the fame fpiritual drink: for they drank of that fpiritual Rock that followed them; and that Rock was Chrift. Heb. xi. 13. And the fcripture foreseeing that God would juftify the Heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, faying, In thee fhall all nations be bleffed. V.9. So then, they which be of faith are bleffed with faithful Abraham. V. 14. That the bleffing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jefus Chrift; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. VI. Col. ii. 17. Which are a fhadow of things to come; but the body is of Chrift. • Mat. xxviii. 19. Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghoft: V. 20. Whofe voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promifed, faying, Yet once more I fhake not the earth only, but also heaven. V. 27. And this word, Yet once more, fignifieth the removing of those things that are fhaken, as of things that are made, that thofe things which cannot be fhaken may remain. Jer. xxxi. 33. But this fhall be the covenant that I will make with the houfe of Ifrael, After thofe days, faith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they fhall be my people. Of Chrift the Mediator. I Lord Jefus, his only begotten Son, to be the IT pleafed God, in his eternal purpose, to choose and or Mediator between God and man, the Prophet', Priell, Gentiles through Jefus Chrift; that we might receive the promife of the Spirit through faith. V. 16. Now to Abraham and his feed were the promifes made. He faith not, And to feeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy feed, which is Christ. Acts xv. 11. But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jefus Chrift we fhall be faved even as they. Rom. iii. 21. But now the righteoufnefs of God without the law is manifefted, being witneffed by the law and the prophets: V. 22. Even the righteoufnefs of God, which is by faith of Jefus Chrift, unto all and upon all them that believe; for there is no difference: V. 23. For all have finaed, and come fhort of the glory of God. Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promife might be fure to all the feed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that alfo which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all; V. 17. (As it is written, I and have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quick, eneth the dead, and calleth thofe things which be not as though they were. V. 23. This is the the law, and did perfectly fulfil it; endured most grievous torments immediately in his foul, and most painful fufferings in his body; was crucified, and died; was buried, and remained under the power of death, yet faw no corruption. Wherefore, when he cometh into the world, he faith, Sacritice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body haft thou prepared me: V. 6. In burnt-offerings and facriAices for fin thou haft had no pleafure. V. 7. Then faid I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me) to do thy will, O God. V. 8. Above, when he faid, Sacrifice, and offering, and burnt-offerings, and offering for fin, thou wouldcft not, neither hadft pleafure therein, (which are offered by the law;) V. 4. Then faid he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the firft, that he may eftablish the fecond. V. 10. By the which will we are fanctified through the offering of the body of Jefus Christ once for all. John x. 18.
