EXPLANATORY OF THE CHURCH CATECHISM. 139-2 Mary Martha (Butt) BY MRS. SHERWOOD, Author of "Little Henry and his Bearer, &c. &c. Baltimore: PUBLISHED UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE RT. REV. DR. KEM By the Protestant Episcopal Female Tract Society of Baltimore. AND SOLD BY John H. Naff, at their Depository, No. 4 N. Charles street. John D. Toy, print. OF MINNESOVA LIEKAR THE Managers of the Protestant Episcopal Female Tract Society being impressed with the importance of presenting to the rising generation a summary of Christian doctrine and duty, in a form at once familiar and alluring, have determined to publish the following Stories, composed by Mrs. Sherwood for the benefit of children in India. The scenery and circumstances are all descriptive of that interesting portion of the earth; and in the English copy the dialect of the country may be said to be in some measure used, and the work encumbered with some terms with which the younger portion of readers can scarcely be supposed to be familiar. To remedy this inconvenience such verbal alterations have been made as were Econsidered essential to adapt it fully and completely to the taste and language of our country, without changing, in any degree, the general structure of the author's style; whose high Freputation both in Europe and America, and the superior merit of whose publications, are too well known to need any comment.
