Memorare.

(300 days Indulgence for each recital.-Plenary Indulgence once in the month, on usual conditions. A.)

Amen.

REMEMBER, O most Holy Virgin Mary, that no one ever had recourse to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy mediation, without obtaining relief. Confiding therefore in thy goodness, behold me a miserable sinner before thee, groaning under my sins, beseeching thee to adopt me for thy child, and to take upon thee the care of my eternal salvation. Despise not, O Mother of Jesus, the petition of thy humble client, but hear and grant my prayer. Amen.

Prayer to our Blessed Lady.

Mr Queen and my Mother! to thee I offer myself without any reserve; and to give thee a mark of my devotion, I consecrate to thee during this day, my eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, and

my

whole person. Since I belong to thee, O my good Mother, preserve and defend me as thy property and possession.

EJACULATION IN TIME OF TEMPTATION.

My Queen and my Mother! remember that I belong to thee; preserve and defend me as thy property and possession.

By a decree, Urbi et orbi (August 5, 1851), our Holy Father Pope Pius IX. grants: 1° 100 days Indulgence, to be gained once a day for the above prayer, if recited morning and evening after a "Hail Mary." 2° A Plenary Indulgence once a month, on the ordinary conditions. 3° 40 days for using the Ejaculation in time of temptation.

Dedication to St. Joseph.

HOLY Joseph, nursing Father of my Lord Jesus, and Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, I, N., choose thee for my special patron and director, and since God has appointed thee to be the head of his holy family, I pray and beseech thee to look kindly upon my vocation, and to help me in it by thy intercession. Teach me, I implore thee, to honour Mary as my Queen,

Under

and to love her as my Mother. thy guidance let me walk in the way of virtue and devotion, and so deserve by thy patronage always to live and to die a true son of Mary and a faithful companion of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph.

O HOLY Joseph, father and protector of virgins, to whose faithful keeping Innocence itself, Christ Jesus, and Mary the Virgin of virgins, were committed, by these dearest pledges, Jesus and Mary, I beseech and conjure thee to preserve me from all impurity, that I may always serve Jesus and Mary in perfect chastity, with a mind unpolluted, a clean heart and a chaste body. Amen.

Prayer to our Guardian Angel.

(100 days Indulgence for each devout recital.
Pius VI.-Pius VII. A.)

O ANGEL of God, who art appointed to be my Guardian, enlighten and protect me, direct and govern me, Amen.

Prayer to St. Aloysius for Purity.

(100 days Indulgence once a day if recited with the Our Father and Hail Mary.-Pius VII. A.)

O BLESSED Aloysius! adorned with angelic graces, I, thy most unworthy servant, recommend specially to thee the chastity of my soul and body; praying thee by thy angelical purity, to plead for me with Jesus Christ, the Immaculate Lamb, and his most holy Mother, Virgin of virgins, that they would vouchsafe to keep me from all grievous sin. O never let me be defiled with any stain against my chastity; but when thou seest me in temptation, or in danger of falling, remove far from me all bad thoughts and wicked desires; and awaken in me the memory of an eternity to come, and of Jesus crucified. Impress deeply in my heart a holy fear of God, and thus kindling in me the fire of thy divine love, enable me to follow thy footsteps here on earth, that in heaven with thee, I may be made worthy to enjoy the sight of our God for ever. Through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

One Our Father and Hail Mary.

Instruction upon Meditation.

MEDITATION, or Mental Prayer, is a devout and fruitful consideration of Divine things, and of all that is conducive to the acquirement of virtue and of eternal salvation. By meditation we dispose ourselves to receive the gifts of God, and obtain his aid to overcome ourselves, and to remove from our hearts every evil affection. Thus we enable ourselves either to ascertain more securely and embrace more readily the state of life to which we are called by God, or to improve ourselves in the one we have chosen, by animating ourselves to the more perfect accomplishment of the duties imposed upon us.

Meditation, when made according to the method proposed by St. Ignatius in his book of the 66 Spiritual Exercises," consists of four parts, the Preparatory Prayer, the Preludes, the Points of the Meditation, and the Colloquies.

1° THE PREPARATORY PRAYER.-This is the same in all meditations, and is some short prayer directed to Almighty God, in which we ask, through his grace, that all the powers and operations of our mind may be directed to his greater honour and glory. The following may be used:

"Prevent, we beseech thee, O Lord, our "actions by thy holy inspirations, and carry "them on by thy gracious assistance, that "every prayer and work of ours may always "begin from thee, and by thee be happily "ended."
