IV. This covenant of grace is frequently fet forth in the fcripture by the name of a teftament, in reference to the death of Jefus Chrift the teftator, and to the everlasting inheritance, with all things belonging to it, therein bequeathed h. 1

This covenant was differently adminiftred in the time of the law, and in the time of the gofpel i: Under the law it was adminiftred by promifes, prophefies facrifices, circumcifion, the pafchal lamb, and other types and ordinances delivered to the people of the Jews, all fore-fignifying Chrift to come k, which were for that time fufficient and efficacious,

IV. h Heb. 9. 15. And for this caufe he is the Mediator of the new Teftament, that by means of death for the redemption of the tranfgreffions that were under the firft teftament, they which are called might receive the promife of eternalinheritance.v.16.Forwhere

a teftament is, there muft alfo of neceffity be the death of the teftator. v. 13. For a teftament is of force after men are dead: otherwife it isof no ftrength at all whilst the teftator lieveth. Heb. 7.22. By fo much was Jefus made a furety of a better teftament. Luke. 22.20. Likewife alfo the cup after fupper faying, This cup is the new Teftament, in my blood, which is fhed for you. 1 Cor. 11. 25. After the famemanner alfo he took the cup, when he had fupped, faying, This cup is the new teftament in my blood: this do ye, as oit as ye drink it in remembrance of me,

V.i2 Cor. 3.6. Who alfohath made us able minifters of the new teftament; not of the letter, but of the fpirit: for the letter killeth; but the fpirit giveth life. v. 7. How thall not the minitration of the fpirit be rather glorious? v. 9.
