mercy; be Thou appeased, and grant us pardon in the name of the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen.

By decree of the Sacred Congregation of Rites, dated April 2, 1899, the Litanies of the Sacred Heart of Jesus are approved for the entire world, and the Holy Father has attached an indulgence of three hundred days to their recitation in public or in private.

Litany of Perfect Contrition.

(By Pope Pius VI. For Private Devotion Only.)

LORD, have mercy on us.

Christ, have mercy on us.

Lord, have mercy on us.

Have mercy on us.

Christ, hear us.

Christ, graciously hear us.

God the Father of heaven,

God the Son, Redeemer of the world,
God the Holy Ghost,

Holy Trinity, one God,

Jesus, Who by forbearance and longanimity dost show forth Thy power and good

ness,

Jesus, Who waitest for the conversion of

Have mercy on us.

I repent with all my heart.

sinners with so much patience and yearning desire,

Jesus, Who so lovingly invitest sinners to do penance,

Jesus, Who rejoicest so much at the conversion of sinners,

For having sinned,

For having sinned so often and so grievously,

For having sinned in thought, word and deed,

For having sinned so deliberately and wantonly,

For having sinned by innumerable negli-
gences and omissions,

For having so audaciously transgressed
Thy holy commandments,

For not having feared Thy omnipotence,
For having despised Thy love,

For having abused Thy goodness and
longanimity,

For having renewed the sufferings of Thy
Son, my Saviour,

For having deserved Thy just chastise-
ments in this world and the next,

Because by my sins I have offended Thee,
O my God,

Because by them I have provoked Thee to

anger,

Because by them I have become displeasing to Thee,

Because I love Thee above all things,

In union with the loving contrition of all holy penitents,

In union with that horror which the Blessed Virgin Mary ever had for the smallest sin,

In union with that incomprehensible anguish which Jesus, Thy divine Son, suffered in His loving Heart on Mount Olivet on account of my sins and those of all the world,

I repent of all my sins.

Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world, spare us, O Jesus.

Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world, hear us, O Jesus.

Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the

world, have mercy on us, O Jesus.

Christ, hear us.

Christ, graciously hear us.

Lord, have mercy on us.

Christ, have mercy on us.

Lord, have mercy on us.

Let us Pray.

O GOD, Who by sin art offended, and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplications to Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger, which we deserve for our sins. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Spiritual Communion.

(St. Alphonsus.)

MY JESUS, I believe that Thou art present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love Thee above all things, and I desire to receive Thee into my soul. Since I cannot now receive Thee sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart (here form an ardent desire to receive Jesus in your heart). I embrace Thee, as if Thou wert already there, and unite myself wholly to Thee. Never permit me to be separated from Thee.

(Sixty days' indulgence once a day; applicable to the poor souls in purgatory; June 30, 1893.)

Litany of the Blessed Virgin.

LORD, have mercy on us.

Christ, have mercy on us.

Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ, hear us.

Christ, graciously hear us.

God the Father of heaven, have mercy on

us.

God the Son, Redeemer of the world, have mercy on us.

God the Holy Ghost, have mercy on us.

Holy Trinity, one God, have mercy on us.
Holy Mary,

Holy Mother of God,

Holy Virgin of virgins,
Mother of Christ,

Mother of divine grace

Mother most pure,

Mother most chaste,

Mother inviolate,

Mother undefiled,

Mother most amiable.

Mother most admirable,
Mother of our Creator,

Pray for us.
