Das 3 Capitel.

u der Zeit kam Johannes, der

fer, und predigte in der Wüste des Jüdischen Landes,

2 Und sprach: Thut Buße, das Himmelreich ist nahe herbey gekommen.

3 Und er ist der, von dem der Prophet Jesaias gesagt hat, und gesprochen: Es ist eine Stimme eines Predigers in der Wüste, bereitet dem Herrn den Weg, und machet richtig seine Steige.

4 Er aber, Johannes, hatte ein Kleid von Kameelshaaren, und einen ledernen Gürtel um seine Lenden; seine Speise aber war Heuschrecken und wilder Honig.

5 Da ging zu ihm hinaus die Stadt Jerusalem, und das ganze jüdische Land, und alle Länder an dem Jordan;

6 und ließen sich taufen von ihm im Jordan, und bekannten ihre Sünden. 7 Als er nun viele Pharifäer und Sadducäer sah zu seiner Taufe fommen, sprach er zu ihnen: Ihr Otterngezüchte, wer hat denn euch gewiesen, daß ihr dem zukünftigen Zorne entrinnen werdet?

8 Sehet zu, thut rechtschaffene Früchte der Buße.

9 Denfet nur nicht, daß ihr beh euch wollt sagen: Wir haben Abraham zum Bater. Ich sage euch: Gott vermag dem Abraham aus diesen Steinen Kinder zu erwecken.

23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

CHAPTER III.

Baptist, preaching in the wil

N_those days came John the derness of Judea,

2 And saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

4 And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about Jordan,

6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

7 ¶ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

10 Es ist schon die Art den Bäumen an die Wurzel gelegt. Darum, welcher Baum nicht gute Frucht bringet, der wird abgehauen, und ins Feuer geworfen.

11 Ich taufe euch mit Wasser zur Buße: der aber nach mir kommt, ist stärker, denn ich, dem ich auch nicht genugsam bin, seine Schuhe zu tragen; der wird euch mit dem heiligen Geiste und mit Feuer taufen.

12 Und Er hat seine Worfschaufel in seiner Hand; er wird seine Tenne fegen und den Weizen in seine Scheune sammeln, aber die Spreu wird er verbrennen mit ewigem Feuer.

13 Zu der Zeit kam Jesus aus Galiläa an den Jordan zu Johanne, daß er sich von ihm taufen ließe.

14 Aber Johannes wehrete ihm, und sprach: Ich bedarf wohl, daß ich von Dir getauft werde; und Du kommst zu mir?

15 Jesus aber antwortete, und sprach zu ihm: Laß es jetzt also seyn; also gebühret es uns alle Gerechtigkeit zu erfüllen. Da ließ er es ihm zu.

16 Und da Jesus getauft war, stieg er bald heraus aus dem Wasser; und siehe, da that sich der Himmel auf über ihm. Und Johannes sah den Geist Gottes, gleich als eine Taube, herab fahren, und über ihn kommen.

17 und siche, eine Stimme vom Himmel herab sprach: Dieß ist mein lieber Sohn, an welchem ich Wohlgefallen habe.

10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14 But John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

16 And Jesus, when he was bap. tized, went up straightway out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17 And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

5 Da führete ihn der Teufel mit sich in die heilige Stadt, und stellete ihn auf die Zinne des Tempels,

6 und sprach zu ihm: Bist du Gottes Sohn, so laß dich hinab; denn es stehet geschrieben: Er wird seinen Engeln über dir Befehl thun, und sie werden dich auf den Händen tragen, auf daß du deinen Fuß nicht an einen Stein stoßest.

7 Da sprach Jesus zu ihm: Wiederum stehet auch geschrieben: Du sollst Gott, deinen Herrn, nicht versuchen.

8 Wiederum führete ihn der Teufel mit sich auf einen sehr hohen Berg, und zeigte ihm alle Reiche der Welt und ihre Herrlichkeit;

9 Und sprach zu ihm: Dies alles will ich dir geben, so du niederfällst, und mich anbetest.

10 Da sprach Jesus zu ihm: Hebe dich weg von mir, Satan; denn es stehet geschrieben: Du sollst anbeten Gott, deinen Herrn, und ihm allein

dienen.

11 Da verließ ihn der Teufel; und siche, da traten die Engel zu ihmi, und dieneten ihm.

12 Da nun Jesus hörete, daß Johannes überantwortet war, zog er in das galiläische Land;

13 Und verließ die Stadt Nazareth, kam und wohnete zu Capernaum, die da liegt am Meere, an den Grenzen Zabulon und Nephthalim,

14 Auf daß erfüllet würde, das da gefagt ist durch den Propheten Jesaia, der da spricht:

15 Das Land Zabulon, und das Land Nephthalim, am Wege des Meers, jenfeit des Jordans, und die heidnische Galiläa,

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down, for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

11 Then the devil leaveth him, and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;

13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea-coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim;

14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee

18 Als nun Jesus an dem galiläischen Meere ging, sah er zween Brüder, Simon, der da heißt Petrus, und Andreas, feinen Bruder; die warfen ihre Netze in das Meer, denn sie waren Fischer.

19 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Folget mir nach; ich will euch zu Menschen- | fischern machen.

20 Bald verließen sie ihre Netze, und folgten ihm nach.

21 Und da er von dannen weiter ging, sah er zween andere Brüder, Jakobum, den Sohn Zebedãi, und Johannem, seinen Bruder, im Schiffe, mit ihrem Vater Zebedão, daß sie ihre Netze flickten; und er rief fie.

22 Bald verließen sie das Schiff und ihren Vater, und folgten ihm nach.

23 Und Jesus ging umher im ganzen galiläischen Lande, lehrete in ihren Schulen, und predigte das Evangelium von dem Reiche, und heilete allerleh Seuche und Krankheit im Volk.

24 Und sein Gerücht erscholl in das ganze Syrienland. Und sie brachten zu ihm allerley Kranke, mit mancherleh Seuchen und Quaal behaftet, die Besessenen, die Mondsüchtigen, und die Gichtbrüchigen; und er machte sie alle gesund.

25 Und es folgete ihm nach viel Volks aus Galiläa, aus den zehn Städten, von Jerusalem, aus dem jüdischen Lande, und von jenseit des Jordans.

Das 5 Capitel.

Da er aber das Volk sah, ging er

17 ¶ From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

18 ¶ And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishers.

19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets: and he called them.

22 And they immediately left the ship, and their father, and followed him.

23 T And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness, and all manner of disease among the people.

24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond Jordan.

CHAPTER V.

when he was set, his disciples came unto him.

taught them, saying,

3 Selig sind, die da geistlich arm Find; denn das Himmelreich ist ihr.

4 Selig sind, die da Leid tragen ;denn Ale sollen getröstet werden.

5 Selig sind die Sanftmüthigen; denn sie werden das Erdreich besitzen. 6 Selig sind, die da hungert und dürstet nach der Gerechtigkeit; denn sie sollen satt werden.

7 Selig sind die Barmherzigen; denn sie werden Barmherzigkeit erlangen. 8 Selig sind, die reines Herzens sind; denn sie werden Gott schauen.

9 Selig sind die Friedfertigen; denn fie werden Gottes Kinder heißen.

10 Selig sind, die um Gerechtigkeit willen verfolgt werden; denn das Himmelreich ist ihr.

11 Selig send ihr, wenn euch die Menschen um meinet willen schmähen und verfolgen, und_reden allerleh lebels wider euch, so sie daran lügen. 12 Send fröhlich und getrost, es wird euch im Himmel wohl belohnet werden. Denn also haben sie verfolget die Propheten, die vor euch gewesen sind.

13 Ihr sehd das Salz der Erde. Wo nun das Salz dumm wird, womit soll man falzen? Es ist zu nichts hinfort nütze, denn daß man es hinaus schütte, und lasse es die Leute zertreten.

14 Ihr sehd das Licht der Welt. Es mag die Stadt, die auf einem Berge liegt, nicht verborgen seyn.

15 Man zündet auch nicht ein Licht an, und setzt es unter einen Scheffel; sondern auf einen Leuchter, so leuchtet es denen allen, die im Hause sind.

16 Also lasset euer Licht leuchten vor den Leuten, daß sie eure gute Werke sehen, und euren Vater im Himmel preisen.

17 Ihr sollt nicht wähnen, daß ich gekommen bin, das Gesetz oder die Propheten aufzulösen. Ich bin nicht gekommen aufzulösen, sondern zu erfüllen.

18 Denn ich sage euch wahrlich: Bis daß Himmel und Erde zergehe, wird

4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peace-makers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before

you.

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick: and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

| 17 ¶Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or
