He was a man of pleafing manners, of the ftricteft integrity, and of the most benevolent difpofitions. In attachment to his King and Country he was fecond to none; an ardent zeal for the welfare of fociety deeply impreffed his mind with contempt and abhorrence, at the schemes of the unprincipled abettors of confufion and anarchy. Every event that increased the public safety, that tended to give additional dignity and importance to Great Britain among the nations of Europe, communicated a pleasure to his heart which a true patriot alone can feel. He envied no man's comforts; he was no man's enemy. As he was walking by the fide of a loaded waggon, not far from that place, he unfortunately tumbled against a stone, and being unable to recover himself, fell under the wheels of the waggon, which going o ver him killed him on the fpot. Mr John Greenwood, of Colne in Lancashire:-For several years he had lived in the open avowal of Atheism; but in his laft fick nefs he declared himself fully convinced of the Horrors of Atheism, and of the New French Philofophy. A few days before his death, he ordered four ele gant volumes on Atheistical subjects, to be brought to him, which he immediately committed to the flames.
