out Leave; and the Virtues eminently distinguishable in Your Ladyfhip, will justify my Choice to

the World: For as thefe Stories contain in them many fhining Instances of Conjugal Love and Fidelity, I am confident they will not appear ill apply'd, in being dedicated to one who hath given fuch eminent Proofs of both.

I undertook this Performance, in Obedience to a Lady of the first Rank; and I prefume it will be far from being unacceptable to your Ladyfhip, that

your Name appears in the fame Work with one of her liluftrious Birth and excellent Qualities.

If in this I have made a full Excufe to obtain your Pardon, I reft fatisfied the Publick will eafily forgive me for this fhort Trefpafs upon their Patience: And I fhall be
