HE near Relation of Blood betwixt us, gives me the Assurance of pre
senting this to You without Leave; and the Virtues eminently distinguishable in Your Ladyship, will justify my Choice to
the World: For as these Stories contain in them many shining Instances of Conjugal Love and Fidelity, I am confident they will not appear ill apply’d, in being dedicated to one who hath given such eminent Proofs of both.
I undertook this Performance, in Obedience to a Lady of the first Rank; and I presume it will be far from being unacceptable' to your Ladyship, that your Name appears in the same Work with one of her lilustrious Birth and excellent Qualities.
If in this I have made a full Excuse to obtain your Pardon, I rest fatisfied the Publick will easily forgive me for this short Trespass upon their Patience : And I Thall be
