In general literature, all the productions of the most celebrated authors of the last century have been presented in every varied form, for the use of all classes of Society, while Standard Religious Works have received but little attention. ST. JOHN IN PATMOS ;
OR, THE LAST APOSTLE;
A Sacred Poem from the Revelations.
In 8vo., 7s. 6d., bound in cloth gilt,
Mezzotinto by Thomas Lupton. “MR. BOW LES is one of the oldest of our living poets; how little hazard he runs of seeing the laurels pass from his own brows to those of his junior competitors in the tuneful art, the present volume affords a convincing illustration.”—New Monthly Magazine.
“MR. Bowles is now, we believe, the oldest of our living poets, and certainly there is not one amongst them all who has better reason to look back upon his works, and say that there is not a line he could wish to blot. The equability, gentleness, and moral power of his writings have long been acknowledged, and although he may not find many imitators, for imitators are usually caught by the varieties, and not the innate virtues of verse, he will, we may confidently assert, find but few rivals in the path he has so long pursued with universal honour."-Atlas.

“ This is one of the sweetest and best little publications in the English Language.”—Lit. Gaz.
“ Were we to quote all that is beautiful in this little work,' we should extract the whole.”-Fraser.
“ A little book of moral and religious verses, such as a child may easily learn by rote. They are worthy to be learned by heart.”—Times.
“Mr. Bowles has conferred a valuable gift upon all children who can read, in these unpretending, simple, and beautiful lines.”-Atlas.
“Siuce the time of Dr. Watts nothing has been published, at once so simple and so intellectual, so agreeable and so useful."-Spirit of the Age.
THE ANCIENT MISSIONARY OF CHILI ;
A POEM, FOUNDED ON THE HISTORY, AND DESCRIPTIVE OF THE SCENES OF South AMERICA. Fifth Edition, Foolscap 8vo., 6s. With a
beautiful Vignette by W. F. WITHERINGTON, A.R.A. “ It is an epic flight to the New World, which manifests considerable genius; little that is stale and hackneyed appears in the narrative; the whole is full of incident; the poetry is nervous, varied, and flowing."Monthly Review.
“As a poet, the Author of "The Missionary,' may compete with the foremost of his cotemporaries. Let it be recollected, that all my prerious opinions of Mr. Bowles' poetry were written long before the publication of his last and best poem; and that a poet's last poem should be his best, is the highest praise.”-Byron's Memoirs, vol. 5.
