COMPOUND SUBTRACTION.

COMPOUND Subtraction teaches to take one quantity of several denominations from a greater of like quality.

GENERAL RULE.

Place the quantities as in compound addition, with the less under the greater; then begin at the right hand, and take the ander from the upper; but when the lower num.

ber is greater than the upper, take it from as many of that denomination as will make one of the next greater, and to the remainder add the upper number; set down the result, and carry one to the next, &c. Proof. As in integers.
