There is in every Sacrament a spiritual relam tion, or Sacramental union between the lign and the ching fignified ; whence it comes to pafs that the names and effects of the one are attributed to the other. e Gen, 17. 10. Mat.26 27, 28. Tit. 3. 5.

The grace which is exhibited in or by the Sacraments righcly used, is not conferred by any power in them, acicher doth the efficacy of a Sacrament depend upon the picty or inteation of him that dech administer it, * buc upon che work of the Spirit, 8 and the word of lafticution, which contains together with a precepe authorizing che use thereol, a promise of benefit to worthy receivers of Rom. 2.26 29 '1 Pet. 3. 21. & Mat. 3.11. i Cor.12.13 Mat. 26. 27,28. and 28. 19, 20.
