CHAP. II.

Exhortation to mutual love.

Christ the corner-stone.

WHEREFORE, laying aside all ma

8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 10 Which in time past were not a peo ple, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Christian duties enjoned.

1. PETER.

Relative duties. 11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you, as heart, in that which is not corruptible, strangers and pilgrims, abstain from even the ornament of a meek and quiet fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; spirit, which is in the sight of God of 12 Having your conversation honest great price.

12 Beloved, think it not strange, concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you. On their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen. settle you.

11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand. 13 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.

15 But let none of you suffer as a marderer, or as a thief, or as an evil-doer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. in Christ Jesus.

14 Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are Amen.

The Second Epistle general of PETER.

CHAP. I.

Exhortation to several duties.
