ST. MATTHEW. Beginning of CHAPTER V.. which is upon the sea coast, in Christ's sermon on the mount. That it might be fulfilled A he went up into a mount which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, 15 The land of Zebulun, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; 16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publi cans so? 48 Be yetherefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. CHAPTER VI. Christ's scrmon continued. TAKE heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and inthestreets, thatthey may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4 That thine alms may be in Becret; and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. 5 T And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets.that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when 17 But thou, when thou fastest. anoint thine head, and wash thy face: 18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Fatner which is in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 19 T Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where mcth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: ST. Ye cannot serve God and manmon. 25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. 13 not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Beholt to fowls of the air: for they sownot, neitherdothey reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his staturo? 23 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the liics of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory, was not arrayed like one of these. 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pullout themote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. 6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. 7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seck, and ye shall find: knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seckoth indeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10 Or if he ask a fish, will he 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cas:rive him a serpent? into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or. CHAPTER VIII. Sundry miracles of Christ. WHEN he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. 2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, say-. ing.
