I believe, Lord increase my faith, and deliver us all from the dreadful state of final impenitency. Penitential Confessions. I have all the reason in the world to be humble. Without God I am nothing. Without his help and grace I can do nothing that is good. Without his word I know nothing. Of myself I deserve nothing but punishment. Of my own, I have nothing but faults, imperfections and sins, an inclination to evil, an aversion to good, unruly senses, ungovernable passions and unreasonable affections. I am ashamed to come before thee, but yet I must come or perish. I know that thou art angry with me for my sins, but I know too, that thou pitiest me, or why do I yet live? make me full of sorrow for my sin, and full of hopes of thy mercy and pardon. Look upon the infirmities of thy servant, and consider his weakness. Sensible of my own sad condition, weak and miserable, sinful and ignorant, liable to eternal death, I prostrate myself before thee, imploring thy help and pardon.
