EVENING PRAYER: SECOND FORM

IN the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Thou art worthy, O Lord,

To receive glory and honor and power; For Thou hast created all things,

And for Thy pleasure they are and were created.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills,
From whence cometh my help;
My help cometh even from the Lord
Who hath made heaven and earth.

UR FATHER.

OUR

O God, make speed to save us;
O Lord, make haste to help us.

GOD, who makest the outgoings of the morning and the evening to praise Thee, we thank Thee that this day has been crowned by Thy goodness. Let Thy care and loving kindness be over us this night, and may we enter upon another day with renewed strength and grace to serve Thee more faithfully, that we may be forever Thine; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Self Examination (Section VII)

MAY the Almighty and merciful God

grant me absolution and remission of all my sins, space for repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of His Holy Spirit. Amen.

Thou hast been my succour,

Leave me not, neither forsake me,
O God of my salvation.

ALMIGHTY and everliving God, who

hast vouchsafed to regenerate me by Water and the Holy Ghost, and hast given unto me forgiveness of all my sins; Strengthen me, O Lord, with the Holy Ghost, the Comforter, and daily increase in me Thy manifold gifts of grace; the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and ghostly strength, the spirit of knowledge and true godliness; and fill me, O Lord, with the spirit of Thy holy fear, now and forever. Amen.

LORD, I commend unto Thy protection and mercy all those for whom I .), be

bring them safely to Thy Heavenly Kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

LORD, let Thy continual pity cleanse and defend Thy Church; and, because it cannot continue in safety without Thy succour, preserve it evermore by Thy help and goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

O Thou, in whom our fathers trusted And Thou didst deliver them;

On lying down to sleep

NTO Thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit, for Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord, Thou God of Truth.

I will lay me down in peace and take my rest, for it is Thou, Lord, only, that makest me dwell in safety.

May the Lord Almighty grant me a quiet night and a perfect end.

SECTION III

SUPPLEMENTARY

For the Morning

PSALM XXXiv.

Benedicam Dominum.

WILL alway give thanks unto the Lord: His praise shall ever be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O praise the Lord with me and let us magnify his Name together.

I sought the Lord, and he heard me : yea, he delivered me out of all my fear.

They had an eye unto him, and were lightened and their faces were .not ashamed.

Lo, the poor crieth, and the Lord heareth him yea, and saveth him out of all his troubles.

The angel of the Lord tarrieth round about them that fear him and delivereth them.

:

O taste, and see, how gracious the Lord is blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

O fear the Lord, ye that are his saints: for they that fear him lack nothing.

The lions do lack, and suffer hunger : but they who seek the Lord shall want no manner of thing that is good.

MY God, I acknowledge that I am not worthy to come into Thy presence, nor to lift up mine eyes in Thy sight, because I have so often sinned against Thee. But, O Lord, of Thy mercy give me pardon for all my sins, and assist me with Thy Holy Spirit that I may pray to Thee as I ought.

WE give Thee thanks, Holy Lord, Father

Almighty, everlasting God, who hast been pleased to bring us through the night to the hours of morning; we pray Thee to grant us to pass this day without sin, so that at eventide we may again give thanks to Thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Gelasian.

LET our prayer, O Lord, come before Thee in the morning. Grant us to pass this day in gladness and peace, without stumbling and without stain; that reaching the eventide without any temptation, we may praise Thee the eternal King; through Thy mercy, O our God, who art blessed, and dost live, and govern all things, world without end.
