glory, and all the holy angels with Him; then shall He sit on the throne of His glory, and before Him shall be gathered all nations m.” “I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell [Hades] delivered
the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every man according to their works. And death and hell [Hades] were cast into the lake of fire. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life, was cast into the lake of firen." And the Son of man shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats; and He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, ye blessed children of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”
" Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire; prepared for the devil and his angels P."
these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into life eternal 9."
Thus “ we must all appear before the judgment-seat of Christ, that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether they be good or bad",” “ in the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christs.” “ Behold, I will open your graves, and cause you to come out of your graves, and ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have opened your graves, 0 my people, and brought you out of your graves, and shall put my spirit into you, and ye shall live, and I will place you in your landt.” “Thy dead shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust, for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the deadu." " So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory"."
“ The end of the world” is also described under the figure of “the harvest*,” when Christ “shall gather His wheat into the garner, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable

firey." “ In the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them ; but gather the wheat into my barn."
“ But of that day and hour knoweth no man, not the angels in heaven, but the Father only*;" “ it is not for us to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in His own power b;” but “ the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.”
Of the nature and degree of that happiness which is prepared for those who are saved, we cannot form any notion : "eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Himd;" they shall be “ as the angels which are in heaven e; that sitteth upon the throne shall dwell among them; they'shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more, neither shall the sun light upon them, nor any heat, for the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters; and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes f.” “ There shall be no more death, neither sorrow

nor crying, neither shall there be any more pains." “ The righteous shall shine as the sun in the kingdom of their Father b,” they “shall shine as the brightness of the firmamenti.” They shall see the face of God”, “and they shall reign for ever and ever!,” “ and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads m."
Neither can we form any notion of the nature and degree of that punishment which shall be the portion of the wicked. It is described,
“ outer darkness—where shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth ";" as “Gehenna,” where is “ fire that never shall be quenched; where their worm dieth noto;" as “ the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone P;” “ and the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever, and they have no rest day nor night9." This place of punishment is spoken of by Isaiah, under the title of “ Tophet," which was“ in the valley of the children of Hinnom [or Gehinnom]",” and was dedicated to the idol Molech, it being the place where the people made their children “ to pass through the fire to Molech";
this seat of profane worship being adopted as a figure of the place of torment prepared for the wicked : “ Tophet is ordained of old ; yea, for the king is it prepared; he hath made it deep and large; the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it s.”
