692. And all drank of it. I see no occasion for the Disarrangement here, except it be to show, That some of the all did not partake of it, possibly, I think, our Blessed Lord himself. It is indeed said, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer, but I do not recollect that it is anywhere stated, Anything about his drinking it; be this as it may, the Arrangement is here Irregular; See Rule 321. 710. And the cock crew. There can be no doubt that these words which are contained in the Authorized Version are Spurious, seeing that we are taught Matt. xxvi. 34 & 75. Luke xxii. 34 & 61, & John xiii. 38, A cock shall not crow till thou hast denied me thrice. These are five separate and direct prohibitions, vouchsafed by three out of four Evangelists, to any cock's crowing after St. Peter's first denial of his Master.

It appears to me probable, that Literally there was but one Cockcrow to a Day, early in the morning, and that the real Cockcrow of the Day in which St. Peter denied our Blessed Lord had passed, previously, not only to his doing it, but even to the Prediction that he should do it; the cockcrow, therefore, that was coming, could only be regarded a Cockcrow of the then day, by a departure from the regular and usual Appellation, and so by denominating it a
