The Truth about the GospelNew Era Training, 2004 - 132 The gospel that Jesus preached would take away the sins of the world, if we believed, understood and embodied what Jesus said. If the gospel that Jesus commanded his disciples to preach to every creature in the entire world had been taught since the death of Jesus (about 2,000 years ago) in a manner that people believe, understand and embody, the entire world would be in peace and harmony. This is in accordance with what Jesus said; however, what Jesus said has been misinterpreted and glossed over. Religious teachers focus undue attention on the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus. Their teachings about being saved are not the gospel that Jesus preached. Jesus said clearly to his disciples: "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. ... He that believeth [the gospel] and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned" (Mark 16:16-17). Clearly, in a society in which about 90 percent of the families are dysfunctional - in a world headed toward desolation and being utterly wasted (language of Jesus and Isaiah) - many people are not saved. If we did anyone of about 12 things that Jesus said to do, we would be saved; e.g., Jesus said: be perfect, be converted, know the truth, love with all your heart, soul and min, do the will of our Father and so forth. James (bother of Jesus) simplified the whole matter: "Purify your hearts, ye double minded." When our heart is pure, we are perfect, we are saved and we have inner serenity, peace, joy and happiness . what everyone desires. If we study, assimilate and understand the gospel that Jesus preached, we know what we must do to purify our hearts and to discover the truth that sets us free . the truththat would save us. We, our families, our society - the very world itself - are in need of a healing. The message Jesus intended for us would heal us, if only we understood, believed and embodied what Jesus said. |
